Traction Control

I have a 2006 chevy cobalt lt and it has traction control and it sucks to drive in the winter time. Is there any way I can take the traction control out for the winter or not???? Is there a relay for the traction control or not???

Isn't traction control supposed to help in the winter?

If your tires spin, you don't go anywhere, let it do its job.

If you really can't stand it, pull the e-brake 1 click or if you are an auto, put it in L.

I took my 2007 SS Coupe 2.4L (auto) out for a "trial run" on new snow in the neighborhood this morning.
Traction control was just that.... if I tried to spin the front tires or even if I wasn't but was giving it too much "gas", the traction control kicked in and kept the car moving. Tires are the stock "P-6" all seasons.

I've been driving since 1962 - 45 winters in Illinois and northern hemispheres except for one in Vietnam.... 22 new cars and trucks as well as military vehicles including M-60 tanks. I've had just about everyone on ice and snow. The 2007 Cobalt SS Coupe 2.4L (auto) with traction control and ABS seems to be much better than any 2 wheel rear drive vehicle I've owned on packed snow / ice and a lot better than my '85 Z-24 (hatch back) that was a proverbial "pig on ice".

i drove mine in the snow for the first time today too ( i live in indiana like the dude above me) and i dont have traction control, but it did pretty good, the 5spd helped. i did a nice e-brake pull in my school parking lot and kept it sideways for a decent long time haha, a lot of fun. anyways, this has nothing to do with this thread, so ill just say this...TRACTION CONTROL IS MEANT TO HELP IN THE SNOW...WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOURS? MAYBE ITS JUST OPERATOR ERROR lol

as said before, if you're auto, try keeping it in L.

Stop on the hill when its snowy, put it in L and hammer the pedal. If you don't slide off the road, put it in drive and you should go right up the hill no problem.

Traction control is about keeping the tires under control. Isn't keeping control desirable in the snow? On a snowny road, put it in L and hammer the pedal. Mine will pull right. With the Traction control it will pull right for 3 inches and then hook back up going stright.

If you have someone in the passenger seat you will go more stright than right because of where the weight is. If your passenger is really fat and you aren't, it will most likely pull left.

It's an all new ballgame when you try that on packed snow/ice 2" thick or more. Mine does great on fluffy snow too.

honestly it your going up a hill and you dont have your tractiuon control on your just gonna start spinning your tires... heres the trick.. lower your tire preasure so you get a better footing and keep the traction control on .... there's a reason why it was put on

traction control is there to help you....if you find that it is constally kicking in, then I think you need to invest in some decent tires..... same thing with ABS, if ABS is kicking in a dry pavement, that means your tires are locking up cause they dont have enough grip....this happened to me with my bald pirellis.... hammer the brakes and ABS starts kicking in..... after I bought new tires, try it again and it can to a stop instantly and ABS barelly kicked in.....
The way traction control works is once one wheel starts to spin(lose traction) it sends braking force to that wheel and the other one then has power. if they both are losing traction that bad, then you are giving it too much gas or your tires are crap in the snow........
if you own a standard, another thing you can do is using a higher gear, to kinda bog the engine, then it wont spin so easily.... unless you own a ss/sc, I usaully only have problems with spining in 1st, 2nd, 3rd.....sometimes 4th and if you shift to 5th fast enough, you can keep them spining..... *This is with winter tires too*

Not if your e-brake is as loose as mine is. With mine 2 clicks short of all the way, me car will move in drive while idiling.

Your e-brake cable must be streched....I wonder how that happened?? haha
Mine is pretty much the same way too, it does take a few clicks before it will start to tighen up....although, I think you will hear a beeping noise when you are driving with the ebrake engaged.....

Never actually pulled it while driving, so not sure if it will ding like the seatbelt warning.

Has been loose since I got it. Noticed it when I used it for the first time at like 200 Miles. Don't know why and not really worried about it.

If you pull the emergency brake while driving, it will do a continuous dinging, the red brake light will illuminate and the DIC will say "Brake Engaged" or something similar

It really does make it worse, trust me.

Here's what I did:

I removed my ABS2 fuse from the engine fusebox
