Trade In Value

Has anyone recently traded in their cobalt or had it appraised for trade at a dealership? I plan on getting out this week to have it appraised, just wondering what others think I might get on trade in. It's a 2006 SS/SC with about 31k miles on it. Sunroof and XM are hte only options. It has Stage 2 but I know the dealers really won't care when it comes to trade in value.

it also depends on what price they are selling you the car you are trading it in for.

They will give you more for your trade in but you pay more for the car, or if they give you a really good deal on the car, your trade in value will be crap. It all evens out.

If they offer you that kiss their ass and call it ice cream. That's the low end of what you'd get private sale, let alone trade in.

Thus why you dont mention any trade when shopping for a car. THen when you get a solid price in writing for what you want. Then say you have a trade and go from there. Prepare to fight there lowball. NEVER give in, esp now if they dont budge just walk out. you will get a call in 24 hours wanting to talk again as they need sales. At least..thats how i scored an amazing deal on my car.

What dealer is this at?

I had taken my 06 SS/SC with G85 and Stage 2 in with 43K miles to trade in and the mother effer said 6500$. I looked at him, laughed, took the paper work out of his hands, ripped it up in front of him and walked out the door.

Sell the car first (or after, whatever). If you trade it, you will either get fucked on the front or the back end -- but I can guarantee you'll get fucked.

I've even heard of people having almost paid-off loans rolled in to a new loan after being offered more for trade than they owed.

Two Tips:
1) Don't even TALK about trade in til you have the price you want on the new car.

2) Go over to lendingtree (or wherever) and get preapproval on a loan. This will give you MUCHO buying power since you'll be walking in virtually cash in hand.

By doing that you've knocked half their chips off the table, and your experience will be much more relaxed. After you have a good price (in writing..) you can talk about trading or seeing if they can find a better APR on your new loan (they should since a lot of dealers are running 0% now).

For both... Hendrick Chevrolet in Cary, NC!

Yes I know I got a helluva deal, and I'm not going to complain on that fact! The lowest offer I got from them was 13k. I had the dealership that actually had the 09 Sedan at they offered me 8600, which I laughed went to this dealer got the deal done and the car transferred over! I got out the door for 23k including tax, tittle, and all the other crap! Car stickered at 25,6

I am talking/emailing with a dealer that is 100 miles from me so I'm not going to drive up there till I have a pretty good idea that the deal will work out. It's a used car that I'm looking at, so I already have a pretty good idea of a finance rate that I will be looking at. His initial estimate without seeing the car was "high 9's." I told him that was way too low to even consider a deal. He told me to take to to another dealership in my area and see what I get offered and we will go from there.

I understand that it would be a better deal to sell it privately, but that's tough to do right now, too. I basically have an out the door number in my mind that I think is reasonable. If they hit that number by giving me more for my trade fine. If they do it by rolling in neg equity but coming down a good bit on their price, fine. Either way, I give them my bottom line and see if they can hit it.

I'm expecting most places to come in between $10 and $12k. If I sell it privately before I work out an acceptable deal, that will be great. I just don't see that happening, so I will just keep working both ends.

I'm expecting initial offers of 9500 to 10k. Then the fun part starts. I kind of enjoy the back and forth of negotiating. Its more fun when you don't need the new car and just want it. I'm not folding until I get the OTD price that I want.

I'll let everyone know the final offers I get.

Tonight I stopped by a dealership to get an initial offer on trade before I even sit down with them. They first told me around $10k. When I said that wasn't even good enough to start negotiating, the immediately said, "well, we could probably get you $11k."
