Want tints, but scratches on window!

So I have the money ready and want to get tints, probably going for 20%'s all around except windshield.

Only problem, from the window going up and down some dust gets stuck in the weather strip and now my window has very light scratches. You cant feel them with your nail over them but when a cars light points straight at it you can see all the scratches and makes it kinda blurry to look outside. Like a lot of white marks.

I'm wondering if anyone has gotten a glass polish before and where do they do that type of job and what's the cost. I'd like to "clean" my windows before getting tints.

Getting a replacement glass from the junkyard it's 80$ each side so id rather avoid that for now.

Let me know what you guys did if you ran into the same problem! I saw some products online for 30-50$ but not sure they work. I wanna hear from you first.

Thanks in advance.

Found some kits online but don't wanna spend 50$ on something that doesn't work. I'd much rather go to a company that specializes in this type of work. I called some AutoGlass shops but they just said replacement through insurance. I don't wanna go to that extreme I just had my windshield replaced off insurance it'll bring a red flag if I keep changing glass like that.

Edit: After reading, our best bet is to call local glass stores and ask if they offer glass polishing services. The windows are the easiest glass to remove I've done it many times I could just take it to them and have they do it. Other option is buying cerium oxide and polishing it ourselves, its about 15$ worth a shot. But you need a buffer and I don't have one, gonna ask some friends lol.

Are you doing the tinting yourself or having a shop do it.

Sub for answers as well. My windows are all scuffed up. Even if the scuffing is fixed wont the tint get messed up from whatever is causing it in the first place?

Tint is on the inside, as long as the scratches are on the outside (which usually they are) your tint will be ok.

I don't know about polishing glass that has scratches like that but a cheap quick way go buy some 0000 steel wool, denatured alcohol, and a polishing compound. Hit the window first with the 0000 steel wool and denatured alcohol (helps remove water spots and the likes). Then take the 0000 steel wool and get some polishing compound and try it. (DISCLAIMER I am not responsible if you go ape **** crazy with the polish or use 00 or 000 steel wool and scratch the living **** out of your windows, practice makes perfect you could always practice on a small corner or cheaper window from the junkyard)

I think Autogeek has some glass polishing products you could try. They don't put any crap on there so it's worth a shot.

I took a picture today just so you can see the type of scratch I'm talking about. But I also found a solution for it. I guess they also call it "water damage". This is what we have to do;

1) Buy cerium oxide (15$ for 1lb)
2) Mix it with distilled water and make a little paste.
3) Get a buffer attachment for a drill (theres a kit of cerium + buffer att. for cheap)
4) Polish the glass and wipe everything off.
5) Follow up with continuous maintenance & cleaning of the weatherstrip, buy a can of compressed air and leave it in your glovebox whenever you plan on rolling down your window make sure you wipe all the dust off the side first (this tends to happen more often to people that doesn't have a garage and parks outside) I personally use a screwdriver and get most of it out but eventually getting the compressed air.

If your window damage looks like the one I have it'll work.

This is my damaged window;

And yeah, you're right. We can still get tints since they go in the inside of the glass and I don't think I have any damage there, most of the damage is outside because the dust gets trapped in the weatherstrip.

So I think I'll get tints this week and I'll just polish the glass later on. Maybe after tints it won't be so noticeable.

This is the video for the solution to my problem;

Try the 0000 steel wool and denature alcohol. The steel wool can also be used with metal polish on your exhaust tip.

I've got the similar problem on the driver side, the actual part of this that pisses me off is when it rain the water sheets off that window instead of beading which is a mega safety hazard when it only rains 5 times a year but in buckets. Been holding off tint until I can figure this out, hopefully this might save me the trouble. Thanks for posting the info.

Did the tint make them less noticeable at all?
