WARNING!!! GM supplier shut down...

HERE COMES THE SUNAMI!!! and it's growing hundereds of feet tall by the day... I hope everyone's balts are running ok and any other GM car or truck you may have.. one of GM's big suppliers just shut their doors till further notice.... This will effect Cobalt owners especially... as I need a new cable for my shifter, the car has been at the dlr for ten days and I was just told indefinately, most likely not till 2009 will there be a cable sent..... So I'm having the car towed home, a cable fabricated and selling\trading\dumping the car...

Um if your under warranty and there wont be a cable until 2009 I would tell them they better take the car back or they better find one or its lawyer time.

*tsunami

Well, that's crappy. I want a Turbocharged grille. I hope I can still get it by next month.

So why keep the car/make payments on something that is not driveable? Let it stay at the dealer and see if your payments can get haulted or something.

......proof?

This has happened more then once in the past year, usually the suppliers arent a big deal, cause they can usually find another soon. In fact one shut down in october and 400 jobs were lost, but nobody ever heard about it from GM, cause it didn't really matter much.

Lets all press the panic button because theres no way any other company can manufacture shifter cables for cobalts...

typically gm has 2 or more suppliers for every single part. this way, if one shuts down or just cant keep up with demand they cna get them from another supplier.

and no you cant stop making payments on a car thats in the shop or waiting for parts, the lein holder will repo the car and your credit goes in the toilet. if the car still has warrenty they do need to provide you with a courtesy car as long as your car is on their lot. if unable to get the part new, they do have the option of getting a good used one from a junkyard (they do have to disclose to you that they are doing that) or an aftermarket part.

I think he's talking about AC Delco and they aren't shutting down...they are being sold to someone else. They are still going to be a supplier tho, just under a different name.
