What is this?

Can someone tell me what this silver thing is in this picture and what it does cause I noticed some balts have it and some dont.

its a badge that was put on 06+ gm cars. its nothing too important. and can be taken off very easily

It is a badge... Does not serve ANY purpose except for looks.

Take a heat gun, some fishing line, goo gone and about 10 mins and you can get rid of it.
