if they said thermostat, it was prolly a continuous open loop code or coolant temp sensor. Keep an eye on your coolant temp in the DIC and get back with us.

The actual code would help too if you can get it

Thermostat is stuck open, temp should be up around 90*c.

Easy to fix yourself if you don't want to pay the dealers hourly rate

Not the best how to, lacks a few details, but should give you an idea http://www.justanswer.com/questions/...s-cobalt-where

Remove the blower to get at the thermostat? WTF, do they change spark plugs through the tailpipe too?

That's a bit low but unless you are getting on it, these little alloy motors don't make very much heat and they cool down very quickly compared to "old school" cast iron motors.
Steady cruise on the highway when the temps are in negative numbers, mine will drop to around 75 c (about 170 f).
Get on it to pass someone or merge and the temp pops back up - until I get off it again

When its really cold mine runs in the 170s also, so I guess it is normal.
Normaly it runs at about 180 though in regualar weather.

My brother has a F150 which did the exact same thing, when it was "warm" out the light would go out, the place he bought the truck from replaced the thermostat and that fixed the problem.
