Thumbs up

I have two Cobra XRS 9340 radar/laser detectors for sale if you guys are interested. 60shipped. Its actually a really good detector. I have one and haven't gotten a ticket since I've had it. Check the classifieds section for my thread.

I got a BEL 980 a few months ago and it works amazingly well. I just recently picked up an Escort 8500 and it's great too.

It's a toss up as to which is better, I think I'm liking the BEL more at this point, but I'm going to use the Escort a little while longer for a better comparison.

x2 with my beltronics ive been over a mile away from radar traps and picked them up.... in all reality quality wise your gonna get what you pay for..... yes i have had one of the cobra 50$ jobs and yes it worked but the beltronics works soooo much better, better distance, better looking, better user interface, better sound, everything and it even feels like its good quality not a cheap plastic

x2 on getting what you pay for

I have an Escort 8500 and I love it! Had multiple Cobras for years and liked them fine too, but I did a side-by-side windshield comparison and the Escort had far superior range (=more lead time!). It's expensive but worth it...the only time i've gotten a ticket since owning it is when it was in the wife's car

Ive had my Beltronics 940 for a while. It doesnt have all the cool features of the $200+ ones, but the range is excellent.

I bought it because it seemed like the best bang for the buck, and its worked great for 3 years.

What about the ones that mask your car? they say they mess up the radar they are trying to pin on you.

If it jams radar, its illegal. period. And you have more to worry about than a speeding ticket if you are caught with a jammer. Try felony violation.

And btw, that phazer 2 crap only work up to about 10 feet from the unit. So its useless. But can still be considered a jammer.

Oddly, laser jammers are legal, except for Cali.

I have the escort passport 8500 too, it works really well but sometimes the laser signal on mine goes off for no reason at all. It's usually instantly when i get on the throttle. Mine is also 3-4 years old, I got it used about 2 1/2 years ago.

mine had the same issue. have had mine for about the same time. you'll need to call escort and get a claim number from them and they'll send you a box to mail it in. they will have to recalibrate and update some **** on it. it will cost you around $60 though since it's out of warranty. they have great customer service too.

I have a BEL RX65 PRO. Go with BEL or Escort as they do test better than all of the other radar detectors except the Valentine 1 and the Valentine 1 is expensive and it's only feature that really beats BEL and Escort are the arrows telling you which direction the radar is coming from. Escort (Cincinnati Microwave) owns BEL so they are both coming from the same company.

oh the biasness...

cheap
escort 8500

expensive and worth it
escort 9500xi
V1
Bell STi

Go do your own research on the web, there are a couple companies that have compared these. The escort 9500xi has the lowest false alarms, the STi has the furthest range and the V1 I cant think if any thing.

I own the 9500i and LOVE it. it is the only one to have gps integrated, so that I can block out false alarms and it knows the location and exact frequency of the signal. Also I can set up alerts for speed camera, etc. As long as you keep to those above, ie. the known good ones you will ultimately be fine.

I have seen some of the comparisons and they all 3 picked up on the same things at about the same distance. I dont like the escort because it has annoying ass sounds.

I too have an Escort 8500 x50 and man has this thing saved me so many times. Awesome detector. And like you said mine kinda goes crazy every once in awhile too. However lucky me Escort headquarters is like 2 minutes from my house haha.
