what would you do?

my wife has always not been a big part of the car scene, mainly because she doesnt have a car of her own.
she drives a 2005 rav4 with almost 90k miles
there is a 2006 chevy cobalt ss/sc with 50k miles, its red just like mine for sale at a local dealership. they will sell it to us for 12,200 and give us 9,000 for the rav4.
should we do it?
it has stage 2, ingals torque damper and gmpp exhaust
its boosting at 15psi
2006 Chevrolet Cobalt for sale at Bob Johnson Chevrolet Rochester NY - 1G1AP14P467665148
pros: she gets her own sports car, i know it almost inside and out, its red just like mine so interchangeable parts, almost the exact same car payment
cons: her parents will tweak, gas is going up in price, terrible in winter, its not the best for animal and people transportation

damn...that's a nice looking 'balt. If I found one of those here in Canada for that price I'd probably trade my LS in for it :P
I say go for it if your wife's down. Gas isn't SO bad if she isn't a maniac driver. And my dogs fit comfortably in the back of my coupe when need be.
Good luck with your decision!

If she's never been into cars this is the equivalent of her buying you a gift card to a spa. Leave the car thing alone, all its going to do is make you lose that solo time in the garage because she will be right there with you asking why you got that part and she didnt

i say keep rolling with 1 suv and 1 car,
they arent terrible in winter but the suv will be better
do you have kids or pets that you need to transport alot?
mileage should be the same, if not slightly better in the cobalt, unless her right foot gets the better of her
if you lived in a southern state id say do it in a heart beat

The Volvo is my wife's car. Thats how I solved this. I took her to Europe and bought her a Volvo. I know this option isn't always it the cards but it works.
Amongst our cars, Her car holds the title of "most torque @ 2000rpms"
Git the car.

thatd be terrible if we had a second cobalt and a rav thats 4 car payments and a house mortgage!
I was selling my truck on cragslist and this guy wanted to trade his 06 red ss/sc but obviously i already have a balt lol so i said no. You want his number maybe trade him your Rav??
go to your local chevy dealer and check out the INSANE deals on leasing/buying a Cruze/Malibu otherwise just pay off the Rav4 and call it good. No car payment = cash flow = good thing. However if you can get her into a Malibu 4cylinder with the 2.4L and 6speed (base powertrain) they get up to 33mpg on highway, very reliable vehicles (consumers digest recommended)
Exactly what I said. Agree 100%. Though I can't imagine a high HP exotic or the sort being good with RWD and probably TOO much hp for snow. But I wouldn't know, never drove one in the snow. :P
