What Would You Do?
so just got my cobalt ss/sc back today after waiting a month for it to get a new transmission put in, finally got it back today... Was driving around like a champ loving having my ride back. I roll up to Stratford to fill it up with Ultra 94, roll out and hear a metal type grind sound by the right front tire. I'm like uh-oh don't think i'm gonna get home. Hear it again and am like yikes a better pull over and blam! ... My ball joint falls out and the drivers side right tire gets shreded by the back of the wheel well and bends the fascia under the drivers door and the back of the wheel well... someone didn't tighten the ball joint properly! ...the car was stranded right in the middle of the road for an hour. Had to get towed home for 100 bucks.
I was thinking how lucky I was that it happened when i was going 25km/h and not 100 or so... could have killed me and my girl...
anyways after all this bullshit what would u guys do in my position? just looking for ideas..

thats bullshit, and shouldnt have happened. Honestly if i were you, id report this strait to the parts and operations manager of whatever region ur in. Honestly, dude your life was almost over if u were going anyfaster. Id make them pay for the tow, and tell them to buy the car back. get another cobalt, or another ride period.
well thats what i kinda want a whole new car... just don't know how plausible that is... i figure its going to be at least 2 more weeks to amonth so thats 800 dollars in payments alone without a car by the end of all this... plus the liablility issue if i would have beeen hurt from this... I dunno , i'm fed up. I want an 06 sunburst ss/sc if i can swindel it... i figure they'll just fix what they can then pay for the body shop work... i'll have pics up tomorrow when i go into the dealership to take them and talk to someone.... sigh.
prime time to have my car now too... summer! I'm storing it for the winter so i'll have 3 months of driving before then maybe 4 if i'm lucky...
OH ya and the car is 4 months old with 4000 miles on it....

sounds like they didnt put the cotter pin back in the nut on your ball joint. if they did it wouldnt have come loose like that. anyway you cant lemon law it unless you have taken it in 4 times for the same thing. at least thats how it works here in texas... you could always sue them. ask a lawyer.
Well you can't get a lemon law because it was the mechanics fault that it broke. The lemon law applies to warranty issues that make the car undrivable. If I were you, I'd see if you can get a new car out of the deal. But most likely the dealership is going to fix it. But hey its worth a shot. But now your going to be with out a car for a while again. That's not right. Go in there and see what the stealership is willing to offer. A mechanic is a person not a computer he makes mistakes too...he shouldn't...but he does. But because the car is only four months old, I would push for a new car.

You should have called GM roadside assistance and got them to tow it back to the dealer instead of forking over $100.
I'd take it to the dealer, demand the car be fixed and a rental while it's being done. Be firm but nice. It's a human error that could have happened to nay of us.

Lemmon Law buy backs are not that easy to get. Talk to ONLY the service manager ASAP! They are going to kiss your ass because the tech obviously left a bolt loose on the lower control and nearly got you killed. As Mercury suggested above tell them you want to do Stage 2 and if he will discount the **** out of the parts and labor.

we dont have the lemon law here in canada....
and i would demand them too do somethign for you
first make sure they give you a decent rental car... not some POS.... and tell them its summer and this is the best time to drive a car like this and for 3\4 of it its going to be in the shop....and if the dealer does nothing get on the phone with gm canada and talk to the hightets person and put up a big fight dont let them win.... and make sure they give you a reduced price in stage 2 or free install of it...
