Question What's Going On With GM ????

Ok so I just went to my dealer today to get his quote on a brand new SS/SC so he gives me the 2007 pamphlet ( Canadian version ) and in the accessories part its written turbocharger kit for cobalt SS. So I just went to the parts department and of course : he doesn’t have a clue what this is and even wonders if the SS/SC is turbocharged or supercharged … So my question is : does anyone have an idea what is going on with GM ??? Ill try to post a scan of this later on this evening.

Was it a turbo or supercharged car? I'm asking because some of the old guys call turbochargers "turbosuperchargers". If it were a turbo car I can see someone calling it that, but if it's just supercharged then they are idiots.

Ebay has nothing to do with GM either.

The term "turbosupercharger" comes from aviation, WWII days. The supercharger came first. It was installed on radial aircraft engines. It was driven directly by the crankshaft using a centrifugal style compressor wheel. They weren't very efficient, but it was free power they otherwise didn't have. Then the turbo was developed. Since the term "supercharger" was already in use, and it was technically an accesory pad mounted, directly mechanical driven device, it kind of had developed the rights to the name. So when this new fangled compressor that was driven by a turbine wheel came out, they at first called it a "turbine-supercharger". The term were separately later over time naturally.

Your situation might be due to the French, being as you are in Canada. It could be a phonetics thing where the French refer to the mechanically driven compressor we know as a "super" charger as a "turbo" instead. The Germans call them compressors, not chargers.

Why are GM employees automatically retards when your dealer is the one with zero intelligence?

Dealerships and the OEM are two separate entities.

When you can prove that everyone works at GM is a complete moron...then you can go right ahead.

If you have a distaste for car salesman and dealerships as I do, it is alot of fun to learn a bit about a car and go over to a dealership and start asking them questions and then call them on their answers. The best part is when you walk away from them and they think they may have lost a sale because they know literally nothing about the cars they sell. It's like read a damned brochure at least.

This I can agree with.

I've dealt with both at both. But thankfully the good ones are equally as easy to find at most places.

Nice Historic Backup but i can assure you french has two perfectly different words for super and turbo : Turbocompresseur and Compresseur Volumétrique .... no need to speak french to see theres a small difference... not trying to bash you but its really about a turbo kit, ill try to find a place to host the pic or somethin but in the meantime ill just give you the link to the brochure : http://www.gmcanada.com/french_migra.../coba_broc.jsp page 9 no need to speak french to see theres turbo written in the middle of the page

Do you mean Page 15 of the brochure and page 8 of the PDF? Where it says: Ensemble turbocompresseur pour Cobalt SS ??

IDK? Maybe a kit for the 2.4SS? or maybe it is their way of mentioning the Stage Kits?
