Where does the whine come from?

ive done a couple searches, but being really generic didn't really help, plus ive seen different answers.

I like the whine the super charger makes, however, I can't seem to get mine to do it. Its a stock 06 ss/sc.

Ive read it only does it at WOT, only with a smaller pulley, need a different exhaust to hear it. So im not sure which is correct. I plan to get the stage 2 eventually if its a pulley thing. Then again, I haven't actually revved passed 4k cursing so maybe I should try WOT...

I was contemplating the TTR injen intake, but while im a fan of the whine, im not to keen on super loud exhausts.

So I probably wouldn't hear it stock then?

What would you suggest for an intake to achieve this after a stage 2? Like I said injen I think will be to loud, so im guessing air box mod? Is this done the same way as the 2.2/2.4 how to?

Exhaust wont change how loud ur whine is but for extremley loud u can be like me.lol. Ported blower, plugged silencer holes, intake, and smaller pulley.lol. Any ?'s pm me man

thats why you havent heard the whine. go WOT all the way to redline...you'll hear it. If you want it louder, intakes make it louder, smaller pulleys make it louder, and porting it out makes it a bit louder. Start with an intake, see how that goes for you.

I like the sound of a supercharger, but I so love the sound of my spooling turbo as I come off the line and run the quarter or the look of a c4 vette fading in my rear view under full boost.... whats not to love?

the only boosted car i've had before this one was a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP(which was supercharged).... I know stock, the s/c wasn't loud at all... but once I put an intake on it, it was REALLY loud... sounded like a raped ape, lol:

(that video was with a 3" downpipe and intake only, before the swapped pulley, rockers, etc.)

but I definitely prefer a turbo spooling, isn't as loud but you just fall in love with it

you didn't go WOT on the test drive of the car?

you should be able to hear it stock it won't be too loud but it's there trust me.

like everyone said an intake will bring out the whine.

if you want to be really tricky just drain all of the SC oil and it should make all sorts of cool noises.

My first manual, so someone I had the salesmen take it out with me.

Like I said, I didn't want a super loud intake but enough to hear the whine pretty good. So one said the ABM would be good, but which intake would you recommend that isn't super loud. I had a fart can on my LS and hated it.

From what I am reading, you do not understand the difference between an intake and an exhaust. Maybe I am reading it wrong.

kinda looks like that doesn't it.

the ABM he's talking about is Air Box Mod where you cut open part of your air box to get more air into yout SC. there is a how to on it.

the more air you let into your supercharger the louder it's going to be.. but even normal CAI cold air intakes don't make it that loud. I enjoy my fujita I think it was a nice step above ABM.

exhaust as in muffler and downpipes and headers have nothing to do with whine. that is the part after all the fuel gets burned and is on it's way out. hence exhaust...

intake is where you neeed to focus for now. soo I'm gonna find the link for you to look at intakes. and you pick your own it's your money.
this is an old thread and there may be some new ones out but i haven't been paying all that much attention.

Probably, im still trying to learn heh. But all the videos and such I see of people and their intakes are either done from the inside of the car, or are focused on the exhaust when displaying how loud it was. Ill look at the video after i get off work, they block even photobucket.
