Nice, I see you got a whipple on the cobra. I'm assuming you have a Cobalt SS as well, yeah? If so how do you like it? I'm thinking about picking up one for a daily driver.

 

I did, I sold it back in June. I might pick another up this summer for a DD though. They make great DD cars. You can run 330whp/350-380tq and still get 35mpg when you're cruising. Not many cars that can do that. Also, as much as I love my Cobra seats the LNF seats are a million times better. Throw some blizzaks on a Cobalt and it handles winter like a champ.

IMO, the 08+ Cobalt SS is one of the best choices out there for a DD that gets good mpg.

 

Imports are what drive the domestic competition to make better cars.. Pretty sure a lot of European and Asian cars had a huge push in the past as to what we drive today... Ford didn't do much to pioneer any technology we see in our vehicles today...

for example.. Fuel injection - Swedish invention.. Airbags - Chrysler, The Pickup truck Fords best seller other then the Model T was popularized by Datsun (chevy) and toyota.

Top cars in the 1920s- 1930s were the Bugatti type 35, the Lancia Lambda, Cadillac V-16
they had the same car companies back then as they do now...

I can agree with you on most of what you said. And I hate to sound like a Mustang lover because I do in fact think that most mustangs are complete garbage, but they are in fact one of the most popular cars ever produced and the Camaro was almost an exclusive reaction to the Mustang.

Ya are correct that Ford is not typically a benchmark for anything, however lately they have been having started with taking the top selling car company title from GM. Do I think Ford will stay at the top? No, I would be willing to bet within the next 10 years GM will be back on top because across most of the board GM makes better vehicles.

So have to disagree. Compare ANY car that chevy makes to compete to ford (and the rest of the US), and they all fall short.

Fiesta - Sonic (the one area GM may excel, until the ST arrives)
Focus - Cruze (not even fair to compare)
Fusion - Malibu (again, same...)
Taurus - Impala (W body, honestly GM?)
Expy - Tahoe (draw i suppose, both are long in the tooth)
Mustang - Camaro (Both will swing nuts to each side, but cant deny the 5.0 is the better car IMO)
F-series - Silverado (gets smashed every year)

 

GM is a lot more then Chevy, as Ford is more then just Ford. IMO here are my comparisons

Fiesta > Aveo
Focus < Cruze
Fushion = Malibu
Taurus/MKZ < CTS
Ranger (do they still even make the ranger?) < Colorado/Canyon
Explorer/Lincoln equivalent(can't think of the lincoln) < Tahoe/Escalade
F150 < Sierra 1500
F250+ > Sierra/Silverado 2500+
2011 Mustang > Camaro
2010 Mustang < Camaro

Everyone's going to have their own opinions and it's hard to really define which cars are completely better because it all depends on what you would use the car for and what you want in a car.

 

I take back my previous statement slightly, i completely forgot about the ford GT.. That car was amazing and was a benchmark for along time.. other then that yea chevy and ford are basically the same **** different pile, like all other domestics it seems..

But yea i have owned both ford and gm, had good and bad from both.. not a fan of either..

my father in-law has a mustang and a special deluxe.. theres some people that love fords, some love chevy, some don't give a **** <--thats me.

Of course they are more than just chevy and ford, however, they both badge engineer, so really its just a slightly tweaked version of the same car...same powerplant, etc.

FYI, the Taurus and the MKZ arent the same car... I think you are thinking of the MKS, which would be Lincolns versions of the Taurus, and you cant hardly compare the two IMO. 2 different markets.

But like you said, everyone will have their opinions. I for one really hope chevy makes a Cruze SS, i'd possibly look into something like that as a replacement for my SC. Not purchased new obviously. That, and the Focus ST have my interest peaked...
