wind kills vehicle control?
wind kills vehicle control?
Since new my cobalt has always SUCKED when I drive in areas with a cross wind. This damn thing is all over the road. I was just curious if anybody else had this issue. really only happens on 65+ highways when Im doing ~ the posted speed limit. Thinking about designing a front end piece to aid in steering control so i dont die.
yea when I drive on I-95, or 276/476 or any local highway it just sucks. with all the wind we have right now. Im on a different set of tires. My assumption was maybe the car was just to light.
stock 2.4L SS. only thing thats added aftermarket or the brake pads around the car, and tires. Im not going any stiffer on the springs, car all ready rattles like a time bomb lol.
my 88 thunderbird turbo coupe and my 65 mustang both handle better then my cobalt in this situation. In fact my turbo coupe handles better all around with semi stock suspension and height.
I really feel it more in the front then the back. I went through my entire front end and found nothing alarming aside from normal wear and tear from 45,000 miles.

yea i actually do notice this. on the highway if its really windy it will squirm around a little not quite as extreme as moving the steering wheel, i mean it dose but its not bad. just annoying
i have ss suspension on my ls and then i have 65 sidewall so im thinking it might be because of my tires.
or my alignment no idea.
its good to hear its not only me.
and to be honest its only as of this year for me. so im thinking maybe my bushings and tires combined are making it wiggly.

Regardless alittle wind could/ mght be felt but not enough that I have to compensate for it. time to crawl back under the rattle trap and see what I can find.

My 07 SS SC never had a big problem with a cross wind, probably due to the tail!
My 91 Caprice gets pushed around a bit in a cross wind a bit, but nothing like our old 86 Chev 3/4 Ton van! That baby was like trying to fly the Titanic! lol
Bigger surface area = more pushing
More aerodynamic area = less pushing

i loveee my car in a crosswind. i live in lethridge where we get 100km/h winds numerous times through out the year and my car doesnt budge an inch. only problem i have with wind is if its behind me it shakes my spoiler up and down... my old explorer would get pushed into other lanes if i didnt counter steer fast enuf

The only time I have had to fight to stay in my lane was when I was doing about 60 and an M5 decided to do a flyby at ~140. The wind off of it pushed me onto the line of the next lane but not over.
yea that was my second guess bushing wearing out. good thing im getting the ottp spherical bushings
and then pedders, and ottp street bar, then better wheels and tires, then ill be happy

bet you my 65 is lighter then your windstar and maybe escape. there is nothing in the damn thing and the weight is distributed evenly.

With stock ride hieght I always felt like I was getting thrown around. I put SS/SC springs on recently so when the snow goes away and I'm traveling @ 65 I'll update this post to see what difference that makes.
