Windshields?

Anyone here have their windshield replaced? Just wondering a ballpark on what it cost everyone, and so on?

Some girl in a civic kicked up a rock on the highway, and it's beyond repair.... Left a long crack

I was driving to my gf's cottage, and a big rig kicked up a rock... I didnt see what the company name was other wise I would have went after them to fix it. I shopped around a little but they were all pretty much the same price. In the end I went to Speedy for the Airmiles.

Speedy Auto Glass

Works pretty much the same way here, but since I'm still in facility and considered "high risk" paying to replace the windshield was cheaper than my deductible. My policy doesnt have no deductible on windows.

ok, that sounds basically the same...i know glass is extra on top of comprehensive but worth it, especially where i live, we have so much crap on the roads.

I just had mine replaced last week.. I checked around and all i got was 500 to 600 dollars...So i was at the dealer and they called over to a body shop and i got it for 234 and some change installed..So my advce is to check body shops too because they get it cheaper than even the glass shops....

The windsheilds on the balts are exspensive... The dealer wants 400 just for the glass.. and you have to figure our windsheild isnt like the most of the t]other cars... Ours just sits ontop of the frame and doesnt have any thing that wraps around it.. all the sealant is on the inside... If that makes anysense

Just a question, when they do replace the windshield, i wonder how much of the interior they have to rip apart to get to it, I don't want them to **** the interior up.

they dont have to do anything in the interior.. i had mine replaced and they came to my house and did it in under an hour.. it cost me nothing i have full glass on my insureance... the only thing done from the inside is he will push the windshield out from there and to take off the mirror .. the replacement glass comes with a mount for the review mirror

Alberta Canada is the only area that does not pay the 14%.

I can get windshields for $100 through work. But that's on E series vans, Chevy vans, etc. It might be $150 for a Balt windshield.

Is there some weird communal conspiracy against Cobalts???? Wednesday morning, on my way home from work, a Kia Sportage kicked up a rock and it destroyed my windshield on my 07 SS/SC... not even 8000 miles on the car and the windshield has to be replaced!

and i see by this post, it IS a conspiracy... i'll bet honda is behind it.

The reason GM wants 400 bucks for their windsheild is because its OEM. (original equipment manufacturer)

Bodyshops and glass shops usually get aftermarket windshield which IMO are exactly the same except it doesnt have a GM stamp on them but its still DOT approved. Usually the only thing stopping a glass shop or bodyshop from getting an aftermarket glass is if its not available yet (car too new) or they cant supply a OEM style molding to go with it.

Anyways i'm a bodyman myself and i replace windshields all the time here glass deductibles are 300 dollars, but on a balt id pay for it myself because its most likely going to be under 200$ installed. Its only worth making a glass claim on high end cars because of the grossly overmarked prices of glass. Anyways good luck!

if it was me i would wait until after winter to get you windshield replaced. since the chances of someone kicking up a stone is significantly higher in the winter. that way you don't run the risk of it happening again in the same winter. Just a thought.

I am going to wait it out as long as possible but it keeps getting significantly worse.

smart man.
I have a cracked windshield that happened about 2 months ago.
it will get repaired at the end of winter.

murphys law says if you change it in winter youll get another crack.

umm.. you should all get it done now since the winter will just cause the glass to crack even more.. and if it gets that bad you can get water into the crack and when it freezes it will expand the cracks even more
IMO
