Which year is the best for each the LSJ and LNF? Soon to be cobalt owner here

I'm in the market to purchase a Cobalt SS either or does not really matter to me. I've been a fan of the car since they first came out with the LSJ but a lot has changed since the LNF was released. Anyways my question is which year in each platform is the best as far as factory issues etc. Please and thank you in advance for the information

any lnf > 06-07 lsj > 05 lsj. 05's had some bugs. 6 and 7 were great. lnfs kick ass. one thing to look for on the lnf's though is a leak at the hpfp and rear rotor wear. other than that they're solid.

Any LNF would be good. the 10's came with RPD standard, which is like an interceptor gauge, and upgraded injector seals if you run E. some of the 09's come with RPD and the 08's did not. Lots of people run E on their cars and have no problems but others it eats the injector seals.

07 and 06 LSJ were pretty similiar. 07's get a different steering wheel and gunmetal rims. 05 LSJ's were the worst of all the years in terms of problems.

pretty much what soccor said is correct, watch for oil leak around the HPFP on the block.

I've got a 2006 LSJ and I love it. If you live in an area like mine you'd pick a super over a turbo any day. Turbo is great for top-end, but around here, you rarely get to go past 4k rpm.. I LOVE MY LSJ!

06-07 LSJ, definitely. 07 if you want the new style interior.
Any year of the LNF, really.

Anyone with a LNF mind taking a underwood shot of where to check for the HPFP issue so I know where to look I'd greatly appreciate it. Both my buddies have LSJs and there is only 1 LNF in my city I know of but I don't know him very well enough to go to him for info on it. Seems like the LSJ is pretty popular amongst members. Quick question that I've always wondered about the LSJ. If one was to do a aftermarket turbo swap on the LSJ would it produce more or the same power if you we're to upgrade the turbo on the LNF? If that makes any sense lol

I'm assuming you drive a 05? :P Funny thing there is this 05 in The Houston/Pasadena area with 70k miles for 10.5k that caught my eye. I'm looking to pay cash so I'm sure I could get them to go lower on it but overall it looks in good shape. Back on topic what major issues did you experience with yours?

i've talked about this quite a bit. lnf > lsj all day every day. however, buy one off of what you want your final car to be. if you want 400-450whp go with an lsj and do a turbo swap. stock vs stock you're already going to be in the whole anywhere from 4k-8k more by buying an lnf vs an lsj. the money you could spend modding and building an lsj could still be less than what you would pay for an oem stock lnf. however if you just want to stick with bolt ons, an lnf is the way to go.

but about bolt ons one may say "oh but you could bolt a tvs on to an lsj and make 320whp". well bolt ons on an lnf on a factory turbo you're already making 320 without that $2000 tvs. and if you want to getting in to the swap factor, put on a zzp efr turbo and make 400 on the lnf.

theres so many different routes you could take. it just depends on what YOU want YOUR car to do.

450 is a pretty good idea of what I'm wanting the car to push and still be daily driveable. I use to own a modded 06 GTO that put down 420ish and that put a smile on my face everytime at WOT but that sucker was as heavy as a tank so I'm sure 450 in the lighter cobalt will suit my needs. Ok so I think I've pretty much summed it up on which one to get BUT what is the price range I should realistically be willing to pay on a decent mileage LSJ? Also what would be considered a great deal on a used LNF?

Yeah I figured it was somewhat high :/ and I wish E85 was available closer to my area.

a turbo swap lsj will make 400-425ish on a stock engine and remain a daily driver. 450 is really pushing it. but i guarantee when you feel 400 in this car you'll be okay with it

as for price i have no idea. i bought my '05 in 2010 with about 90k for $11k. but it was also modded and had a turbo swap. totally different setup now but thats the only info i have on a price. just search autotrader and ebay and see what cars are going for with what miles and mods

Just start at around 350 whp, and work your way up, man. Hell, 300 whp in these cars is amazing.

Yeah I'll work my way up until I get comfortable with the car and more knowledgeable about the do's and donts of the engine. He'll if everyone is as helpful as y'all were today I think I'm gonna have a lot of great help and opinions from others!

Kind of hard to find good forums nowadays that are willing to lend out some friendly info to another! So I'm pretty grateful for the info

If possible stay away from 08 lnf. Some had porous blocks although most have been weeded out by now

Completely off topic but if anyone is interested in checking out the website with pics and vids of my old 06 GTO and the build I did on it before I sold it just go to gtslow.weebly.com. Pretty interesting build I had going on it was fully forged ready for boost

I own both. For a "Daily Driver" the LNF is a much better car. My LSJ, even if it's "slower" I smile more in this car with less power. The supercharger powerband + the Whine is just OH-mazing. Look at your power goals, your budget, and what your plans are for the car (DD or track?). Then pick which you think is better! LSJ has more power potential while LNF is easier to make quick power. Tune / DP = 300whp

I think it will come down to which one I come across first with a deal I can't refuse. I know some guys in the Houston area that are really good tuners in the LNF platform. Don't know if they are still members of this forum or not though :/
