Hey guys...I would like to get some opinions on why you bought the Cobalt instead of the Ion Redline. Any reason: performance, exterior, interior, price...whatever.

The ION Redline isn't bad loking at all but I still give the nod ot the Cobalt. Plus that centre IP is not a selling point. Now the ION 4 door is really ugly

I never even considered buying the redline. Personally I think its Fugly, I don't like the rims (they did better on the newer 06 rims)... I hate how the gauges are layed out.... and Its got the name SATURN... (shutters)

I did like the wing when I saw the redline... and I was pleased when I saw they put it on the SS too.
just my opinions

Do not like the suicide doors and from what I understand this makes the RL less ridged then the Cobalt. This should make the cobalt better on the twisties. If you closely the RL's and SS's wings are different but only slightly!

I see your point with the IP...its different but maybe they moved it so you can see more of the road ahead of you?

Also, are their any bad things about Saturn? (like the eclipse's trannys are easy to blow)

4doors , center IP and general overall qwirkyness made the Redline a car I didnt even want to look at , let alone buy .

Now , the replacement for the Ion coupe I think will excite alot more than my SS . If the Opel/Saturn connection remains to be the story , that puts the Astra as the Ion sucessor and the Astra is HOT ! , inside and out .

I bought the cobalt simply because its a chevy, i come from a chevy family, but also i really liked how the sport package made the interior of the car by meaning the gauges, the sport cloth, leather steering wheel, exterior foglights, and idk i really like how the body style of the car looks, especially with modifictations, to me it was a very easy car to like, also i think the gas mileage is great, ive been a truck guy forever, but now with gas prices its time to move on so why not pick a chevy sports car

Dude, you can not like the doors all you want but those are kind of moronic reasons, the rear hinged doors at the b-pillar actually improve overall rigity across the chassis. And any difference in the "twisties" would a. not be felt and b. would likely never be reached at its full limits by the normal or spirited driving you do...unless of course you daily commute is Pikes Peak, I think you'll be fine.

Not liking them for looks is fine but claiming they hurt your performance in the "twisties" makes you sound like some ******* ricer with a fartcan civic that'll "pwn a Z06 in the twisties once I hit the nawwwwwwwwwwwws yo!!!1one!"

No offense but c'mon.

Ugly Instrument Panel..

I personally like the styling of the Redline better...To me the front end of the redline is SICK ! But that instrument panel is RETARDED... Thats why I bought the cobalt instead.... Also the aftermarket is really doggin the redline (which is BS, it has just as much potential)... I wanted to have the most possible performance options...

Even though they have the same "power plant" Redlines are heavier, and Saturn's just have that bad reputation, and i deff dont like the styling, although i like the quad-coupe idea.

The RL's are not heavier, sorry, and they wieght difference between the two cars is 50lbs, so it's not something you would notice at ALL. As for the guage pod, how many of you actually sat in the car, or took it home for an extended test drive? The IP is MUCH easier to read, and makes driving a little more comfortable, because you can put the steering wheel wherever you want without worrying about blocking the any of the guages. Once you're used to it, you tend to like it better than the normal set up. Not liking the rims? At least they have some definition to them, and can appear clean. Not bashing anyone, but the rims on your cars to me look like someone cut it out of a piece of paper, colored it with a pencil, and said "that's it, that's what we're puttin on the Cobalt!!." I like the looks of my car, and also the sleeper aspect of it. No one knows what it is, and handing people their asses in a Saturn is priceless. And for having more potential than our car? That's crap too, because baically all the performance stuff that's made for you, will fit our cars as well. There is no difference mechanically between the two cars, so nothing to worry about different in each car. Looks are subjective, but performance, is performance, and the cars are identical in those aspecs.

It's a taste thing, most people like Chevys and Pontiacs, just because of Saturns bad rep, sure they may be doing something to change that, glad for them, but to every man is each his own, you'r ride is you'r own individuality, I mean, Saturn is GM, coulda done worse and got a Scion or something

Very true. I'm not sure exactly what was viewed as "bad" about Saturn, but from my experiences, they've been nothing but good to me. From the dealerships to the cars, my first car was a Saturn, and I had no problems with it (other than being kinda slow ) but mechanically and such, there were no problems whatsoever. Many others have also had Saturns that lasted well into the 200K mile marker. I just never got why they had such a bad rep .

I looked at the Redlines but I hated:

- No Boost gauge without the comp. package
- 4 doors
- IP in the middle

Got to give the redline the win in the looks of the body kit, but I hated the gauges every second I test drove it. I test drove 2 of them and 1 cobalt. I liked the dash, steering wheel, and gauges better in the cobalt. As appealing as having a sleeper like the redline is, the Saturn dudes won't deal with you at all... I don't see why anyone would buy a car there if you can't get it below MSRP. Did I mention the center pod is FUGLY?? Idiotic location for the boost gauge too...

I agree, the boost guage there does look odd and not so nice, but the ladder tach is pretty damn cool. The whole Comp Package costs as much as the G85 did for you guys. Only, we get the seats anyways . I'm gonna make use of that space with dual Interceptor guages right there. Those things are bad ass, and better than the stupid comp boost guage. I don't know where you went that they wouldn't work at all, but I would say somewhere around 85% of the people that have the RL's have them because of the deals they were getting on them, me included. Most paid under 20K out the door, so I would say that dealer is just ghey.

had it not been for the instrument panel, i think i might have ended up with a redline. plastic panels, while gappy, would have eased a bunch of parking lot anxiety. the extra doors could have come in handy, pita to get in and out of back of the ss. in the end though, the dash was definittely the deal breaker for me.

hmmm, I thought the wheels (plus sign design) were the best part of it. I have never seen a wheel with a 4 spoke style like that. but the cobalt is damn better all around.

I'm just not a big fan of the overall look of the car. Frankly, the suicide doors don't bother me much...They might actually be a good feature for loading stuff, but I think the Cobalt just looks more put together than the Ion. That, and the center gauge would be an absolute bitch

even though they are on the same chassis, I prefer the Chevrolet's styling and it's more conventional instrument panel. Also, I don't need or care for the whole quad coupe idea. I don't have people riding in my car, therefore I can't justify the need for two extra doors.
