Just a little update here. I have had the airbox mod done for 600 miles now and I havent thrown any CEL's and everything is holding up just fine. I used the pep boys specter filter and DID NOT OIL IT AT ALL before installing. Everything is great and my SC sounds like sex.

Mike

yea, if you buy an oiled filter and don't oil it the filter is almost completely useless. you might as well just use no filter whatsoever
Ok, I just ready this and was wondering. My specter filter from pepboys should have came pre oiled right? The oild supplied with the filter is to be used when cleaning it correct? Just want to make sure I didnt screw up by not oiling it when I took it out of the package.

not sure about the pep boys filters but the k&n i had on my car (switched to an aem dryflow) came oiled. the oil is there to stop dirt/dust/etc from entering your engine. however oil filters can also cause oil to get on your maf and screw things up, that's why i swapped my k&n for a dryflow aem.

Actually... if you read the package on the new Spectre brand filters that are on the shelf now... they come pre-oiled. You don't need to do anything but slap it in.

good to know, they used to not be preoiled, could be the older ones with the oil bottle might not be oiled and are the newer ones coming with the oil bottles?

You are correct.

The older ones (white ones) came with instructions and a bottle of oil.

The new ones are colored (they come in red and blue that I've seen) and come pre-oiled. They do not come with oil bottles.

I was wondering who here besides RaineMan (he can comment also) is using the new Spectre filter (9132, 9136) and if you had ant problems with the CEL. I visited Spectre's web site.....very interesting. Check it out

I installed the spectre filter on Friday......no CEL so far and it does seem to have better throttle response. I will run this filter for awhile and change over to the AEM Dryflow since it fits better.

Hmm... a decently interesting website for Spectre there... not something I was expecting for a store brand.

I'll state this as I knock on a large wooden object.

My car has never thrown a CEL in the 11 months and 11,000 miles I have had it.

Guess I got one of the rare good models.

^What filter did you use?^

I plan on picking up the Dryflow tomorrow if time allows me. I've been putting it off for soooo long and like Boosted said, IT'S TOO QUIET! I'm used to a loud blower on my old car's setup.

Hopefully if I install it tomorrow, I should have a ETD waiting on me when I arrive home in the evening. Tuesday should be ETD day! WOOT!

Is it called "Power Adder?"

lol I have one sitting in my room. I just refuse to use it since I beat the hell out of it on my old car. Plus, it's black from all the miles and I don't want to buy the cleaning kit.

Only thing i'm worried about is getting the filter wet and or sucking water into the engine. I want to do the mod, but I don't want to ruin my car after spending a bit over 20k on it.

if you put the splash guards back on not too much water will get in it, only if you get into a puddle. just be careful.

I assume this is only for the ss and sc models. I have an LS and my airbox is on top of the engine. I wanted to buy an actual cold air intake kit, but they are damn expensive for some reason. I'm going to see if there is some way I can mod a filer on my airbox aswell.. If anyone has an LS or similar and has done it, let me know!
