Drivetrain: Clutch Bleeding, Vacuum Method
Clutch Bleeding, Vacuum Method
Alot of people have had some problems with this method. I think it is because most have a problem getting a proper seal. This is what i did to get it to work, and took me approximately 30mins.
Tools
Vacuum Bleeder (should come with most of what you need ie: hose)
New Master Cylinder Cap (got one at my dealership for $5)
Rubber stopper aka bathtub plug (1.25" wide)
Old Rag
1) You first what to start with your old cap. Take a drill and make a hole the exact size of the tube you have. you will want to make your hole slightly off center.
2) Take your rubber stopper and drill a hole the with the same bit used above. Bathtub stoppers have the ring and holder in the middle, i left it on incase i had a problem and needed a way to pull it out so when you drill the hole it will be slightly off center.
3) cut a piece of rag approximately 5" long by 3" wide. Take the rag and roll it up length wise.
4) insert the bleeder hose through the cap and then through the stopper, leave approximately 4" of room between the 2. Insert the stopper into the master cylinder tube, make sure that it is even and not on an angle. Above the stopper you will want to rap the rag around the tube. Then slide the cap down the tube and screw it on. Some may be asking why you need the cap and the rag, with 15hg of pressure it will pop the stopper out of the tube, and the cap alone will not hole the stopper even.
It should look something like this when you are done

5)Pump the pump up to 15hg and let it sit for 10mins. I took this time to move the pump to the cockpit of the car to relax a little. I just routed the tube through the drivers side window. After 10mins release the pressure in the system. My pump came with a way to release pressure so i never had to remove the cap. When pressure is released pump the petal 10 times. Note the way the pedal feels.

6) After your 10 pumps return the sustem to vacuum mode and pump it back up to 15hg. This time let it sit for 4mins. I used the radio for timing, just waited for a song to be over. After your 4min release the system and pump 10 times again. Take note of the feel.
7) repeat step 6 till the appropriate feel is in the clutch petal. MAKE SURE YOU PUMP YOUR BRAKES to put pressure in your break system. Put the new lid on the master cylinder, and you should be good to go.
As i said the whole process took me 30mins and went b with relative ease. As usual this is just a guide, i accept no responsibility for broken items, or and injury or death.

I've had others that have tried to bleed the clutch via this method and it doesn't work. You need to bleed off the bleeder that's on the trans. I had a Saturn tech show me where it was and it was a much better method to get a good pedal for your clutch.
Not shooting your idea down but I've not seen good results going that method.
