How to install the "AEM intake" for your Cobalt SS/SC
By: Denny Medeiros-Cobaltss.net You read the review, now let’s get right to the install (Approx: 30 minutes) Quick note: If you already have another aftermarket Intake, you can also purchase the Filter by Itself and replace your oiled Filter. Tools needed: • Car jack • Needle nose pliers • 10mm, 8/10 Socket with wrench • Philips screwdriver • Wheel nuts tire wrench Open that box: http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...eiros/aem1.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...eiros/aem2.jpg First let’s open the hood and loosen the clamp from the intake. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...eiros/aem5.jpg Let’s loosen up the nuts on the Driver’s side wheel. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...eiros/aem6.jpg Now jack the car up and remove the wheel. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...eiros/aem7.jpg Remove the fender plastic by removing these screws. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...eiros/aem8.jpg Now remove these screws under the fender. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...eiros/aem9.jpg Unscrew this nut holding the stock canister in place. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...iros/aem10.jpg Unscrew these screws holding the stock filter in place. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...iros/aem11.jpg Now remove the stock filter. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...iros/aem12.jpg Unbolt these 2 nuts holding the stock canister in place. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...iros/aem13.jpg Now (blue) cut the clip holding the wiring on the stock canister, you can see the 2 nuts removed. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...iros/aem14.jpg Disconnect the MAF sensor and remove the stock canister box. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...iros/aem15.jpg The stock canister with the filter (found tons of sand in the filter, GM filter not surprised.) http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...iros/aem16.jpg Now unbolt the MAF sensor (be VERY careful with it)… http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...iros/aem18.jpg |
Using pliers remove the stock clamp.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...iros/aem19.jpg Put the big clamp on the filter and attach it to the pipe. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...iros/aem22.jpg Bolt the AEM short pipe to the plastic pipe, the small arrow represents the small clamp. Don’t tighten up the clamps too much at this time… http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...iros/aem23.jpg Now make sure the black arrow on the MAF point direction of airflow, use the M4 bolts supplied. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...iros/aem24.jpg Put the supplied washer on this stud on the frame. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...iros/aem25.jpg Now tighten everything, reconnect the MAF sensor and use a stock nut to bolt bracket (Green) http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...iros/aem26.jpg Re-Install the plastic fender covers, Install the wheel Lower car and Voila!! You’re all done, now go and ENJOY the added power!! |

hey i got a question i ordered an AEM CAI today, Does it come with a new pipe you can see in the engine bay? because it looks like it, but you guys claim it doesn't, unless i have something different? heres what i bought.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting

Nope no engine bay pipe with the aem for the lsj Thats just a generic pic
|
alright thanks man, I can't wait to get this! this is my first mod besides my billet grille, I'm hoping it turns out good
: ) |
I'm not bashing it or anything, but isn't that just a glorified air box mod? My K&N completly raplaced everything from filter to throttle body. How much did that thing cost you?
|
Injen all the way!

LOL.... The K&N pipe you paid 70-80$ more for does this: 1) That shiny new pipe does not improve flow from the stock OEM pipe 2) Uses an Oiled filter that Gums up your MAF sensor 3) Gives you a CEL because check #2 A Real Horsepower increase doesnt mean new shiny new pipe. If you read my review and look closely at the Dyno Graphs you will see a real street performance increase, thats not going to cost you a fortune for no reason. |

wow, bashing K&N are we? I have the intake and I have no check engine lights ever! I got it once. That was because it got wet from water. dried it and it was fine.
The trick with the K&N and the rest of them is to take the whole sensor off without taking a little bit off at a time. I took the whole thing off (wire harness and sensor as one unit not seperate). Good luck with that plastic piping heat soaking all that hot air. The K&N's pipe actually reduces the heat soak you get with the plastic stock piping. So again, I paid for something shiney that has some use and looks good. That AEM intake is "not that great". That I would have to say that is the first time I've ever seen an AEM intake without a full piping. You might as well just take the stock piping off at the thorttle body and turn it into an SRI with what AEM gave you. Seriously.. you saved a whopping $80 but you only got "HAL F THE PURCHASE". Where's the rest of the intake? As for K&N over oiling the filters I agree on that but a dry filter isn't going to do you a load of wonders either. Good luck cleaning it after you have to dip it in harsh chemicals like K&N does. it's your purchase I'm just giving my input. I usually see AEM as performance but that is like removing the stock airbox and just putting a small pipe and a filter on the end. If I wanted that I would go to Murrays and buy a $30 K&N cone filter and some PCV piping  because that's what you paid for. Not putting you down, good write up but bitter about people who waste money on half purchases, to each there own. EDIT: My dealership doesn't care about my intake. It's fine under the Moss Act they said. EDITED because of Moderator displeasurement of my review on the AEM Intake ... |
