Drivetrain: How To: Install CPP Rear Poly Trans Mount

How To: Install CPP Rear Poly Trans Mount

Estimated Time: 45-90 Minutes

Tools Required:
-Ratchet w/ 15mm and 19mm Sockets
-15mm and 19mm Wrenches
-Jack and Jackstands
-Hammer
-Flat Screwdrivers

Optional Tools:
-Air Ratchet
-Angle Grinder



Step 1
Raise car onto jackstands with jack

Step 2
Support Transmission with Jack (the engine and transmission should be raised about a half an inch from normal resting)


Step 3
Locate Mounting Points for Stock Rear Mount



Step 4
Remove Mounting Bolts from Stock mount (The 3 on bottom are 15mm, the one on side 19mm); Wiggle the mount free

Step 5
Use the screwdrivers to pry the stock insert out of the stock mount


Step 6
Trim the lip around one side of the poly mount with the angle grinder so it will fit into the mount. Use the screwdrivers to leverage it in, then pound it in with a hammer until it's all the way in.


Step 7
Installation is opposite of removal


Step 8
Enjoy the new vibes and response from engine and transmission

Step 9

Review

The addition of the second poly mount added about 25% more vibrations than just one, But now the engine has a much more solid feel to it when the transmission shifts. I haven't tried launching yet, but I'm sure I will see a good improvment on my 60' times.

Please remember that the installation of poly mounts won't really effect daily driving, as their real purpose is solely for racing or pushing the car beyond it's normal driving. The addition of poly mounts is best in applications where the user is running a highly modified car, and/or someone who is doing a lot of launching (ie drag racing).

I am planning on filling both of my lower mounts this weekend and I was wondering if you think I could support the motor and fill them both at the same time.

yes, you could easily do it, just do what I said and jack it up about a half an inch from its resting position

so there are two separate transmission mounts that have the same shape...so you can replace both...and how many engine mounts are there? excellent write up btw...i ordered my sportlines yesteday and these mounts will probably be next....i might get the spoiler as a graduation present first tho

Correct. There are two transmission mounts and one engine mount.

HackAbuse Do they vibrate your dash real bad? I just filled mine and when I leave a stop driving normal it wants to vibrate my dash like crazy and at idle the rear license plate vibrates real load. I am going to have to put some rubber bumpers under the rear plate.

They are already available through cobalt performance parts.

Theyre $70 each (you need two)

Why did you shave the one side? Is that a must. I wouldn't think they would make them like that if you had to shave off some of it. Is there a way to not do that?

It makes no difference really.

If you don't shave it, it wont fit into the stock mount.

It fist the stock mount if you dont shave it hack. However you can trim it a bit if you are having a hardtime to putting it in. However you need to lube them mount up with some vas and use a vise. The mount might need to be cleaned up. However if you would like to save some time one of the lips can be ground down slightly to make the install easier.

Could you give me a link to where I could order them at because I don't see them listed on the site. Also why are they so muchmore expensive than the prothane bushings?

Thanks for the link. I'm just wondering what makes these mounts so much more expensive than say the Prothane mounts? Also are the front and reat bushings both identical?

There were less made and Polyurethane is probably more expensive

hack...how in gods name did you manage to fit a socket wrench over that 18mm bolt? the best ive managed to do is get one onto the bolt, but theres no room to actually rotate the wrench and get it free...i cant even turn it so the wrench clicks once.... i dont suppose you can get back under the car and explain how you did it could you?

i made a long ass extension and went from under the hood. hard to explain
the wrench had to be handed up from the bottem.... im guessing ur talkign about the rear mount... i also had to remove the header but i have a pacesetter, its a bit longer
