The map lights on my SS dims slowly once I have the door closed, I'm assuming they all do? Does the dome light do that as well when hooked up like this?

Thanks for the great write up!

Has anyone done this on a 2009 Cobalt SS?
I just want to make sure the same mounting point is on the 2009 SS before I do mine.
A dome light is almost a necessity.

You can check to see if that bracket is there without having to do any damage to the headliner. Just pull the sunroof trim off the back edge of the opening then pull the headliner down enough to see if the bracket is there or not.

I got all my led's from www.v-leds.com

Here is what I used:

Mirror Map Lights: http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/P...42233242235248
Front Dome Light: http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/P...36239232237244

I cant seem to find the ones that I purchased that I put in the rear part of the dome light but I would think that you could use the same ones as you do in the map light. They may be too tall for the rear part but I'm not sure. The ones that I have in the rear part are have 5 led's on them if that helps.

Thanks, hope you have good luck when you go to do yours.

BTW, I would recommend editing your post to remove the quoted pictures, that way there will be less for people to scroll through when reading the thread.

Looks great. Yeah we got screwed. I guess since we have all the extra weight of the sunroof they wanted to save half a pound and not put a dome light in. LOL!

Thanks for the right up, I just ordered a cobaltss and when I was sitting in the one of the cars on the lot I noticed there was no light and was thinking "Man this is gonna be dark when the tinting is done!" I will for sure be doing this to mine, just scared as hell to be hacking holes in my new cars headliner. The led lights totally make this a great mod!!

regardless, awesome how-to
I used a piece of dynomat, just cut a tiny piece and take the lense of the dome light out and put the dynomat along the part where the lense touches the plastic housing. no more rattles.

I installed mine this evening, but what a pain in the butt it was to snap on the lens cover.

The plastic is flimsy and with only the centre of the light supported by the sunroof bracket, I had to stick my arm/hand above the headliner to hold it from behind, while using my other hand to push it up. Needless to say, it's never coming down and I doubt I will ever be able to change the bulbs without breaking the cover.

Despite the cover giving me all that trouble, thanks a whole bunch for this how to thread for the instructions.
It's nice to have the additional lighting inside the cabin.

hi all,
I found the plug for the dome light - AC Delco Part# PT178. Around $25 bucks.
Rockauto.com - http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/rafr...&a=FR316-PT178
or
Amazon.com - http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...FDLH8&v=glance
It comes with 4'' of wire attached to the plug.
Enjoy.

There is one problem with that connector, we don't know where three of the four wires go. Unless you plan on just the one wire that would soldered on to the male pin.

The wires that I soldered onto the metal tabs inside the light do correspond to one of the pins in the plug, so if that plug does indeed fit into the light then it'll work just fine, since you wouldn't have to solder the wires to the metal inside the light.

for those still interested, found Gm #15141565 to be the roof wiring harness, this includes the plug for the dome light, so there is plenty of wire to use when you splice. its only 16bucks on GMpartsdirect aswell. if the wire colors are different, one of the pics on the front page shows the corresponding pins well. ill let you know how it goes in a few days when i get all the parts in.
