Other/Misc: How To: Not get scammed.
How To: Not get scammed.
Alot of you might be weary of supporting vendors, or just dealing with internet companies in general. I have decided to write this "how to" to inform you all of your rights, and some precautionary measures you might want to take.
If you decide to do business simply through the website, here are some things to consider.
Is the site secured? (SSL) Now, this might not be seen while browsing, however during anytime your inserting secure information (credit card info) look for a "https://" or in most browsers indicate that its secured (a little lock logo, or on the bottom it will say Secured or SSL).
If you deal through paypal, it is your safest bet, because IF you were to get scammed, or anything. You can contact paypal, and they WILL get you your money back, and if for whatever reason they cannot, legal actions will be brought against that person.
NEVER deal with a unverified company. Well, I cant say never. but you should be weary, and possibly think of another way to pay.
NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER send money to a paypal account, without the vendor setting up a product for it.
If Vendor A says: "Hey, we got a prototype product! we need $500 deposited to our paypal @ sales@imgonnascamyou.com !
Why shouldnt you do this? Simply because if you send the money, you will not get a transaction ID/receipt.
The vendor SHOULD create it as a product, this will make the product buy "official" and you will have records to prove to them you paid.
Do some research on the people your buying from, if you cant find anything, but you feel comfortable about it, you CAN take a risk, which 99 times out of 100 will pay off...but theres always that 1 time.
Check out the BBB (Better Business Bureau) to see if theres any negative reports about the company in question.
When all else fails, trust your gut. If you think its shady, dont do it.
any respectable company will have its own domain name (www.domaingoeshere.com). Although some companys might host off of another domain to simply explain about products. But it is wise to never purchase products from a subdomain hosted website.
it is also wise to contact the vendor with any questions/concerns you may have.
