How to: Paint your Calipers!! [56k BEWARE!!]
Hello Everyone, tonight i FINALLY got around to painting my calipers!! (i'd had the kit since JUNE!!) And duringthe process, i thought i'd take a few pics and do a how-to, so here it is!
BTW: This is my first post w/ pics...so i hope i got it right!
Step 1) First, buy yourself a caliper painting kit. You can find them at wal-mart for like 20 bucks, i prefer/recomend the Duplicolor, but i have had similar results with the spray on stuff.
Step 2) Using a lug wrench, break the torque on all 5 lug nuts
Step 3) Next, get your jack out of the trunk of your car, and read the owner's manual on how to set it up. Also, line up the groove on your jack with the groove on your car.

Step 4) Jack the car up high enough so the wheel can spin freely.
Step 5) loosen, and remove the lug nuts.
Step 6) Remove wheel to look like this.
Step 7) Spray and scrub the caliper with a CLEAN toothbrush to remove grim. (Don't use the toothbrush on your teeth when your done!! )

Step 8) Dry off the caliper with a clean, dry towel.
Step 8) Prepare the paint by mixing it.
Step 9) Apply paint to the caliper, if you want to make sure you don't get paint on anything, you can mask off the caliper, but i decided not to.
Step 10) Let it dry.
Step 11) Put your wheel back on and put the lug nuts on, but don't torque them down.
Step 12) Lower the car, and place the final torque on the lug nuts.
Step 13) Remove and put away jack, and you should get a look like this!
and This!
Well, i hope this helps!

Nice that the exact pain i used to paint my calipers works really well. but i suggest using the tape, to tape up anything you don’t want to get red (or blue or black or w/e color u like) if u still haven’t figured out how to color inside the box..... like me
Just make sure you let the paint dry for a little before you run y our car or the brake dust will settle on the paint and dry with it. Also go out and buy some more carb cleaner as it works really well in getting dirt off and well if ur like me and are trigger happy u can go through a can really fast.

Actually, the longest part for me was getting the paint even, just don't use too much or it'll streak and drip. It took me probably an hour for all four wheels, but i only used my one jack, if you have a lift, or access to one, probably like 20 min.
BTW: Tommarow i'll get a pic of the whole car, not just the rim!

just was at walmart pickup a few things, decided to check out the dupli-color kit. I see the blue and started laughing. Red and yellow were a goood color, the blue was a baby blue, it sucked.
Maybe I can mix in sumtin else to get a better blue.

I have always just used rustoleum brushable paints. It is cheaper and high temp. as well. On my Cavalier I found a royal blue that looked very cool, but I would recommend black on the yellow ss to match the gunmetal wheels.

You did a awsome job on those. I am looking to mine this summer with the same color or white if they have it. I have Victory Red SS/SC with the white CobaltSS Decals so the white and red are kinda my going them now but I am undecided on what to do at this time. Any advice can help.

Hmm what color would you use for orange? Or should I just leave em be?
Is there anyway to clean that rust **** off the brakes or not? Mine was like that when it was brand new...

Good write up!!! Hey I need your guys opinion on this. I've wanted to do this for a long time now and I think i'm going to go ahead with it. Now, I have an 05 ss/sc that's yellow with the yellow inserts. Should I paint my calipers yellow or red??
