Intake Mod for 2.2L Cobalts with pictures!!

Well, I got an answer to all you 2.2L guys looking to get a little more HP and Throttle response out of you 2.2L's that won't cost you a penny. Basically I removed the factory silencer out of the front of the air box which i didnt think was so big until I pulled it out of there. Looks stock, But It made a huge difference in throttle response, no more sluggish delayed response when you hit the gas, and it sounds better with a nice deep tone when you get on it. hope you all enjoy it, next will be a cheap custom pipe from the other side of the box to the throttle body.

1. remove headlight and headlight bracket:

2. remove the entire silencer assembly from the car, which you then have a huge open space.

3. This is the air silencer. Very restrictive...

4. This is the stock base of the factory airbox.

5. This is the whole on which the factory silencer tube was running though. Now it is just in the open space which if you have factory fog lights the grates will allow cold air to rush in there. If not there is plenty of cold are coming in from the side of the radiator and the body.

finally re-install the headlight bracket and the factory airbox and it looks perfectly stock it will not void any warranties that I know of.

Hope this help everyone, like I said the sound and the throttle response alone is pretty amazing. As far as mileage not sure yet, but I will comment on that as soon as I see what it does.

will do. actually im in the mood, ill go do it to my car right now

edit: Im working on it right now, and the opening seems too small to get this peice of **** out of there. the place where it connects to the intake is like stick in that little hole since it doesnt want to go down any further

hummm? IDK,, with the ss/sc bumper, you can do a custom ram, in that part by using the passenger side fog light hole, but, with the fog in,, I think is the same flow of air, maybe a lil more, maybe

none, unless you like driving through puddles up to your bumper. Otherwise its 100% worth taking off!

I removed that plastic thing down below when i had to pull off the front bumper to put on the bodykit front bumper, was really easy to take off when my bumper was removed.

This mod was way harder then it looks.. I ended up having to cut out the silencer, as I would have had to take off the bumper to get it unbolted and then out of the engine compartment. This silencer is huge too btw

Omg, I just finished removing mine. It was really hard. for starters its a screw thats under the silencer and and bolt that has to be pull out thats behind the silencer and below the intake filter. It was a pain tring to remove the screws and then tring to remove the silencer without out removing the bumper is hard. You have to take the top part off and then twist and bend the wheel base and bumper.

Revised how-to With Options

Yes you can get the resonator out without taking the bumper off.

Its MUCH easier to do with a set of wheel ramps and getting the front end up.

Remove the splashguard inside the wheel well and the headlight and headlight bracket, then its very simple.

Be sure to put the splash guard Back on.

GM's Service Instructions:

Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement
Removal Procedure

Remove the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
Remove the right front fender liner. Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement .
Remove the air cleaner intake duct retainer.
Remove the air cleaner intake duct bolt.
Remove the air cleaner intake duct.

Installation Procedure

Position the air cleaner intake duct.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

Install the air cleaner intake duct bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb ft).

Install the air cleaner intake duct retainer.
Install the right front fender liner. Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement .
Install the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

My cooler air inlet option - Its 3-1/2 Stainless Steel Truck Exhaust Stack Pipe, NOT dryer hose form Home Depot.
