Pclears custom short throw shifter

ok im gonna make this very very easy for anyone that wants to make their own short throw or if anyone wants to i will make it for you.....

Tools needed:

1) set of allenheads or starheads
2) 5 min epoxy
3) 13mm 6 star 1/4 or 3/8 drive (perfer craftsman) .... no rachet needed
4) somthing to tap out pin and some type hammer
5) a dremel, razor blade, knife, OR something to cut plasitc
6) long handle flat head screw driver

Steps:

1) remove the stock shifter knob ... if you have a problem keeping yours on then you wont have a problem .... if yours is stuck on you will have to twist and pull as hard as you can to get that sucker off ... i dont know the best way to get it off b/c mine wouldnt stay on very well.

2) lightly pry the plastic cupholder/shifter cover assembly off.

3) on the underside of the plastic cover is a connection for the cig. lighter. remove.

4) lift up cover and slide the boot off the shifter.

5) under the boot is a white plastic peice and a spring ... remove that and set aside (this is the reverse lock out ... which for this install will not be needed b/c the reverse lockout will be disabled and will not work again.

6) you will need either a allenhead set or a star head set to remove the screws holding the shifter in place. (the screws SHOULD be lightly screwed in and SHOULD not take alot of force to remove.

7) next you will need to lightly pry off the ball from the lower shifter connecton with a long handled flat head screwdriver. and remove the upper ball of the shifter from the hole to have it look like this.

8) lay the two shifters next to eachother so you can swap the white/black plastic holder for the large bal of the shifter. this is going to take a good amout of force but it will come off ... you will need to push down towards the bottom part of the stock shifter and when it reaches the oblonge white peice you will need to turn the white/black peice a little to push it over the oblonge peice. then just slide it on to the new shifter and give it a little push to have it snap on to the ball.

9) next you will need to take a 13mm 6 point short socket (perferably craftsman, because it slides in better than any others that i tried) and the white plastic peice that comes with the new shifter, and some 5 min epoxy and glue the two together . you need to make sure that the inside of the little white peice is cleaned out and that none of the epoxy gets in the white peice and push the white peice as far as it can go into the socket. After about 10-15 mins to make sure that the glue has completely dried then you can attach it to the new shifter, it can be very hard to push it on b/c when you push the white peice into the socket it compresses it and makes it a little smaller but it will go on.

10) you will need to remove the new shifters reverse lockout, but dont forget to remove the shifter knob to be able to take off the reverse lockout. i took a nail and grinded off the tip flat so i wouldnt flare the tip and not be able to remove it. you can take anything to remove it as long as it will fit thru the hole.

11) after you get the reverse lockout off ... you can attach it into the shifter connections. on the lower shifter connection you will need to twist it to get the connection facing up and it will take a little bit of force to get it in. after you get the lower in you will need to slide the socket thru the lever and with the shifter knob off still you need to take the black plastic peice and slide it back on and will need to screw it back on. you will need to force it on a little b/c the new shifters ball is a little bigger than the stock one and it opened up the white/black peice a little more than before. it will fit back on so dont give up .... as soon as it slides back on you can replace the screws. MAKE SURE NOT TO OVER TIGHTEN THE SCREWS ..... THEY DONT NEED TO BE TOO TIGHT JUST ENOUGH TILL YOU HAVE FEEL IT FREELY STOP

12) after you have the black plastic peice back on you will need to take the shifter cover and if the knob will not fit over the lip on the cover you will need to cut the lip off .... i took a dremel and cut off the large lip around the top so that it was flat will the rest of it. next i put the assembly back on the shifter and then with the knob i threaded it and the tighter it got the more it pushed the lower part of the plastic down the shifter until the knob stopped turning.

Or just go to e-bay...its called the MK2 shifter but sometimes they call it something else.

Just search for "cobalt shifter".

Also what is nice is if you have a TWM shifter we can beat there cost on the shifter knobs so you can interchange them if you dont like your current shifter knob

yes you can buy it off ebay but they do not offer what i offer ... i will not say pricing but i can make it shorter than the 4" tall that it is AND i can get many different shift knobs for less than what you would pay on ebay .... if you bought this shifter on ebay for the ss/sc you WILL have to do some customizing to it which using the the socket isnt a good idea anymore b/c i have a much better app. that i use and with this new attachment i make you can adjust the tension that you want for the shifts .. a looser feel between shifts or a really stiff feel between shifts ...

Do you have any other pics or diagrams that explain exactly what the mod u install actually does to the shifting mech, cause I just can't see where the mod is being applied. Aside from the short throw shifter you start with.
