Remove rear head rests

I personally find the rear head rests stupid/ugly

So i took them off, which is actually pretty easy.

Tools:

13mm socket
Rubber mallet, better then a hammer.

All you need to do is fold down the rear seats,
remove the plastic cover behind the head rest to expose the bracket:

Unbolt it with the 13mm socket.

Use the rubber mallet, or if you insist on a hammer use a scrap of wood so you don't dent the braket, and give it and good wack or two. The bracket should seperate from the head rest. You need the backet to hold the plastic trim in place so it doesn't look ghetto.

Bolt the bracket back in place and put the plastic covers back on.
And there you have it, and cleaner looking rear:

Hmm, interesting idea. It does look cleaner, though I would not have people ride in the back without them I don't think...

I dont really have rear passengers ever, and with being a 2 door its not very comfortable in the back so im not worried. Plus those head rests were low any ways, if I sat back there with the head rests in id still snap my neck and im only 5' 11"

now we need to figure out a way to have the covers fit back on without the brackets... those things weigh a ton.

Yeah they do... it's just wierd... look on the top of the trunk and there are two little pull tabs... they release the seat locks.

I think y'all misunderstood... they are inside the trunk... no opening them from inside the car... you could see your owners manual... it's there for a reason.

no i understood the whole look on top of the trunk was a pretty good clue. it only took me a second to find them after that.

so i'm just wondering what's so bad about not having a headrest i've driven so many cars with lowback seats then again they were all vintage rides when saftey didn't really mean anything.

I hate the rear head rests, I just want to rip them off because 1) they look bad and 2) they get in my way. My '93 Ford Probe didnt have rear head rests. Im glad someone figured it out. There isnt gona be a hole where the head rests use ot be, right? Anyways im 6'4" and if i sit up straight my head is in the roof, thats why i get to drive!

It leaves the two openings in the plastic cover... but when the seat is up you can't see them.

Did this yesterday. Looks much cleaner and improves the limited visibility back there too. Thanks for the post.

only takes once when you do get someone back there. but to each their own.

by the way I think it looks dumb without and more sophiticated and upper class with the head rests in place.

I think the SS/SC guys dont care about them limiting the visability because we cant see anyway. haha

Im keeping mine, for safety and they arent hurting anything.

HAHAHAHAHAHA Aint that the truth.

I remove the head rests when I tint that back window, but for safety reasons I put them back in. I debated on leaving them out but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Besides, when I get around to it, they are gonna house a painr of 7" Alpine monitors

so everyone is going to be turned around watching tv? how about in the headrests of the front seats so the passengers dont have to turn around.

4 monitors, one in the back of each head rest. I'm a big car audio enthusiast. I love car shows
