Use Microfiber Towels to lay things down on, not the seats or pavement as you may attract dirt or scratch things.
Proper tools will ensure an easy process. Rigging things is not recommended.

Okay, here you go.


This is your radio. If you want to remove it, please read.




Open glove box.




Gently pry left edge trim panel from above glove box opening from dash releasing clips. All clips release with pressure.




Work your way across dash releasing clips on trip panel.




Remove trim panel from dash. Check dash for any remaining trim panel clips.




With needle nose pliers, squeeze center two tabs together.




Squeezing center tabs releases clip.




Remove clip from dash. Inspect clip closely, you will have to bend small pointed tabs back into place.




Place clip back onto trim panel ready for re installation.




Driver's side, grasp bottom edge of trim panel next to center console.




Pull bottom edge of panel straight down to release one lower clip.




Pull entire panel forward, away from dash to release one upper clip.


PART 2 In Following Post

Check clips, this releases the entire right side of lower trim panel from dash.




Gently pry upper trim panel from dash releasing two clips.




Pull trim panel slightly from dash. Allow trim panel to hang in place from connectors and wires.




Gently pry top left edge of car stereo trim panel from dash releasing clip.




Gently pry top right edge of car stereo trim panel from dash releasing clip.




Work your way down right edge of panel releasing clips, then down left edge of panel releasing clips.




Pull top edge of trim panel down to allow entire panel to lay onto center console.




Remove two screws right side of car stereo.




Remove two screws left side of car stereo.




Pull car stereo from dash.




Remove antenna and release trigger on connector to disconnect.

does is possible to install a 2007 cobalt factory radio on 2006 cobalt ??? i think the 07 radio is more neat and got mp3 jacks

From what I've been told because of the difference in wiring you arent able to swap out - I'm not sure why but I was at a buddies place who was parting out his G5 and a friend (KasioBoy on here) has an 06 and wanted the G5's radio for the same reason - He was told by the other (whos a mechanic) that the wiring harnesses are too different and something was mentioned about the cars computer...

Sorry couldnt be more help but I was busy prying off my Exhaust at the time as we were doing a swap.

Is there a sub out on a LT stock head unit? It looks like its the same one as SS.

the 07 can't be swapped out with a simple plug and play... their is a different wiring harness. I would really love to trade my silver radio from my 06 for one of them black radio's tho. I love those... crazy jealous

not only is it a different wiring harness, the factory radios that come in these cars recognizes and "remembers" a part of the cars VIN number. If you try to swap out radios from one cobalt to another the radio will not recognize the car and therefore not work. I researched this bcuz i wanted to get my girlfriends 06 LS an 07 deck like mine has in it with the aux jack.

vin can be reprogrammed at a dealer easy as pie... they will charge whatever they want

Just a few pieces of info that I think will help some people.

Those four "screws" that hold the radio in are actually 9/32 on my 07 LS.

Also, I just did this yesterday and had my radio swapped for the upgraded (XM and MP3) radio. I went to the dealership where I bought my car because I know someone who worked there. Unfortunately that didn't help me get it reprogrammed cheaper. I paid 30 minutes labor which is $56 there.

Anyway, what I want to say is when you go to the dealer and have them work on it, make sure to tell them that you know it shouldn't take any longer than 30 minutes (it really shouldn't take 15 or 20 minutes), but I was given the line, "It takes 20-25 minutes for the Tech2 to download the info to the computer." So I just let it go at that.

Great info. It really depends on the tech working on it. In all honesty, the second time I had this done, the service manager had it done in 5 minutes. He literally came outside with the Tech2, plugged it in, ran the vin re-learn, and said there you go... no charge.

This is really easy money though for service departments, so I think that a no charge situation would come up less than often.

The sad thing is my sister-in-law worked there for years and I bought my car there. I've given them business in the past as well (referrals for business). Yet they still want to screw me with that stuff. We've got about 5 different dealerships in the area that are GM (less than 8 miles in any direction from my house) so I'll try different dealers in the future. I know the Saturn dealer has always treated me great (when I had my last two cars which were Saturn S-Series), so I will probably go there instead.

Do i need to bring the 2007 HU to the dealer before install it into my 2006 LS?? or can i install it into the car and then they hook up there thing to the cars port, and not necessairily the radio directly??? from what im understanding, you guys are saying that all i need to do i bring the 2007 HU to a GM dealer or Chevy dealer and tell them that im putting it into my 2006 LS and that i need this 2007 HU programmed with my 2006 LS's Vin number???? so that the car will recognize the radio or vice versa?? and after they program it in, thats it, install it and should work normal??
