Cordova Drag Strip - Oct 15th.

Hi Folks -

Cordova is having an open track day on Sunday Oct 15th -

A few of us from the Peoria area will meet in the JC Penny Parking lot at Northwoods mall at 7:30 am - we intend to leave the parking lot at 7:45am and hit the highway.

Cordova requires a helmet if you run under 14 sec. 1/4, and long pants are required I am told.

It will be $40 for all day - Anyone wants to carava up with us feel free to meet us at Northwoods for the drive up I74.

best regards -

$40 is a bit much for the amount of runs you will get.

Seeing how for the T&T's its $15 for 2, 3 runs if your lucky.

Hi Guys -

I am not sure if you are both talking about Cordova - but if you are, we are about two hours drive south of the track, so coming up on a Friday evening is not going to get us very many runs in -

Coming up on a 60 degree sunny Sunday morning will get us runs all day long.

It may be $30 - I think that is on their web site, but I was told $40 for the day Sunday.

best regards -

Hi Guys -

Well it was a bit of a boonedoggle -

It rained all the way from Peoria to where 74 meets 80 - but it never rained at the track -

As soon as the track opened, I was first to the staging lanes and ran my Z -

Wheel hopped in first, let out, more hop in 2nd, let out again, then tried to make the end of the track in 3rd and hit the limiter a couple of times -

Only ran a 12.8 @ 114.

Then a guy blew the rear end out of a c5 vette, spilling oil halfway down the track - took 40 mins to clean up -

Then I got lined up next to a 2006 Z06 - the 505hp variety.

I came out slow trying not to spin (street tires) and then feathered into 2nd - slammed third and got sideways losing traction - had to let out.

I beat the new Z (he was really being conservative) but my time was very slow (13.0 @ 114).

After that run a guy in a pro-stock mustang ran a 7.5 second 1/4 and then wiped hard at 170mph+ -

The guy was life-flighted out of the track, but was (I am told) talking and moving his legs etc. thankfully.

He tore up a good part of the guardrail at the big end of the track, so after being shut down for almost two hours, the track official said either a rain date or 1/8 mile runs only.

Most of us decided to leave at that point.

Here is a link to the high-res pictures I took -
