Interest in a new racing event
Hey guys,
I posted this is in the drag racing forum, but it doesn't seem to be getting many views in there so I'm going to post it here too. We are trying to organize a new racing event and we need your help building the idea. Take a look and let me know what you think. Also please sign up on our forums and keep in the discussion!
Thanks.

In the form you have described I say no.There isn't a huge following in the 4 and 6 cyl Gm world. Now if you guys were to do a localized ultimate street car challenge with different classes, and autocrossing, drag racing, and a car show,Now we're talking. And don't exclude the v8 guys they always have a good showing. And don't have the drag racing part at the shithole that is Great Lakes dragway.

2) The problem with doing an event that has both auto-x AND drag racing is finding a facility that can accommodate both types of racing, and those are few and far between. Plus doing an auto-x event basically requires bringing in another group to do the tech, timing, and everything else related to it.
3) I've never had a single problem with GLD, and I've put on or helped put on 4 events there. Very easy to work with and very willing to make things run smoothly. Just because the water box needs work and the track isn't Top Fuel quality, it doesn't make the facility shitty. How many people on this website actually need a full 1/2 mile shutdown area or a perfect waterbox? I've seen 6 second passes there, and I'm pretty sure no one here can run those times.
4) There's no following? I'd say the Ecotec has a REALLY big following these days. Not to mention the 3800 guys, they tend to have some pretty good meets.

The track prep is horrible, they let all sorts of shenanigans go on in the pits. every time I have been there it's like high school free for all night. And ok I forgot about the 3800 guys,I stand corrected there. I am very interested in this though I personally need it to be on Sundays or late morning Saturdays, because I work. But I can't bring myself to go to GLD ever again,Sorry, after racing there for over 20 years I've earned the right to refuse them my business,my own personal feelings

The event would either be an all weekend (Fri-Sun) or just a Sunday event, because those are the easiest to arrange.
If you don't want to go to GLD, that is your right as you've said. The issues you've stated happen at just about every track though. Ever been to Byron? Track prep and pit activities are identical there. The only way to get good prep is to go to track that regularly hosts professional races, and those tracks are VERY expensive.
