Racing at Gateway?

At what point (ET) does Gateway require driver to wear helmets now.

I haven't been over there in years.

I'm thinking about taking my Cobalt (Stage 2 only) over to see how slow I am.

Thanks.

I think just about everywhere once you get under 12sec you have to start getting into safety equipment such as race harness, helmet, and simple roll cages

I won't make it over there until the 22nd, weather permitting.
I don't get home from work early enough thru the week to make it to the track and I'm 35 miles from there, but I'm on vacation that week.

Any guesses what a Cobalt SS/SC w/ Stage 2 should run? 260 lb. driver.

FYI gateway is a JOKE. Just got back from the tuesday night drags. My mustang runs consistent high 12's @109, 110mph and they don't check **** for inspection. Maybe its because I always get that one black guy inspector that doesn't give a flying ****, but seriously they don't check anything. He asked IF i had a helmet today, and only cuz I had it sitting in the passenger seat I said yeah, and he checked the date. thats it, thats the only thing he checked.

Btw my mustang offically has the most badass permanent car number of any car in saint louis this year. Anybody care to guess................................

I bought mine at Jim Butler back in August.
The car came from a dealer in Blue Springs, MO.

What time do they start on Tuesday nights at Gateway, and how many passes do you usually get.

I have somewhere else I have to be at 9 PM that night. I'll have to leave by 8 PM.

I ran at Test N Tune yesterday, and for the conditions, im pretty happy with my time.

I only got 2 runs in, then left, but I was paranoid my first run because the last time I was at the track I broke an axle... So I didnt launch at all. I mean I took off like you would at a stop light, but then got on it halfway through first. I didnt spin at all, and ran a 14.918 @ 99.65 with a 2.596 60ft, lol. Thats a high mph for that time, lol. I then decided to launch a little my second run to get a decent time.

I launched somewhat easy, still got some wheel hop (I have solid front and rear tranny mounts, and an Ingalls TD), and with a shitty 2.442 60ft managed to run a 14.445 @ 101.04.

I am determined that with some practice launching, hence and a better 60ft, I have a 14.2 second car right now on a STOCK pully.

So I can honestly say that I am happy with my results right now... I cant wait till I get my pully on...

BTW, compucarnut, I am the guy you talked to in the staging lanes last night!

Yeah that was me. I had a shitty time trying to launch my mustang on Drag radials, plus my transmission was semi-broken. Ended up breaking it completely at the end of the night. I kept bogging it off the line so my best 60ft was a 2.018. My best time of the night was a shitty 12.89 @110mph. I was pretty happy with the MPH considering it is basically a stock 302 with an OTS cam and ported GT40 heads and NO power adder! woot can't wait to hit the button.

btw I was running 13.6 last year with a 100 mph so if you are trapping 101 you are good for a lot better than 14.2. I'd say more like 13.5 if it ever hooks

I might run the cobalt next week to get a baseline but I don't wanna break any parts Its at auffenberg right now getting stage 2 installed

I dont think I could break 13's on the stock pully with street tires. You have to remember that its FWD, so my 60ft is hard to get real low. I might be able to break in to the 13's with drag radials or all out slicks, but im not willing to take the risk of breaking another axle , so that wont happen anytime soon, lol.

I will go down next week if I am off work, I would like to see your stage 2 run, and see how close I am.

Man i was running 16's@103 when i was there a few weeks ago! You can run a 14.2 AJ, just launch the car harder. Cause i ran a 13.7@104.78 w/2.2 60ft with just a 2.85"/injectors/tune/catback last summer.

I just got the car back from the dealer and MAN is the blower whine louder than **** with the new pulley and stuff. I think it really needs exhaust now though, and an H/E.

My buddy at work has an 01 GT with 3.90s and exhaust and is itching to race me, he traps about 100mph on motor so I think with my stage 2 kit we should have a good race........

the gmpp is nice exhaust and get a 2.8 pully that would be a really nice setup for you.
