Anyone been to Lapeer Dragway MI?

Just curious if anyone has been to Lapeer Dragway in MI. I googled drag strips in MI and this one seems to be the closest to where I live. My question is if I go on a Saturday to a test and tune, can I race against my friend? We would like to race each other because we have never taken our cars to the drag strip before and we are both noobs. That way I would feel more comfortable and worry less about the car in the other lane being all pro and making me look like a fool. haha Even if you've never been to Lapeer Dragway, in general can you race against who you want at drag strip test and tunes?

Ya it's pretty easy to get to run against your friend. Just make sure that you guys are in line with each other so you don't have to hold up people in order to run together. I live 3 minutes from the track so I'll go whenever, just let me know when you're going.

Last time I was there some guy spilled tranny fluid down the track. They had 1 person clean it, he used a mop and bucket.

I've run Lapeer a few times.

Not known for it's grip, but if you're not running 12s, I'm sure it'll be sufficient - plus it's cheap, and you can get a ton of runs in.

I ran both my IROC there and my Cobalt.

The guy who did a lot of work on my Camaro ran his Mustang there to a 9.8 on motor, and his Ranger to 11.74. There was a car running 8s there when I was running the Cobalt.

I have a ton of videos from Lapeer on my YouTube channel (and yeah, I know some are shaky).

That sucks, they don't do that anymore. Guy spilled trans fluid last time I was there and they burned it and then scraped it off with 4 people so it only took like 45 minutes (it was down the entire track.) They proceeded to kick the guy off the track for the day for not getting off the track after he started spilling the fluid.

Lapeer is more of a "fun" track than a serious track. You won't get anywhere near your best times there, but they won't flip out over little things and there are a lot of cool people there all the time. Milan is, obviously, a much better track to go to if you are looking for a personal best, but your first few times out, you won't do too great anyway.

Yea, I'd rather get my 30 runs in then get 10 runs if I'm lucky.

Is the actual track surface bad at Lapeer? Why are times slower there, compared to Milan? I'm not worried about getting the best times. I just need to make it down the track and it should be fun. I'm bored of daily driving at 50mph in traffic, I wanna go faster. I want the adrenaline rush of racing.

Nah, its not bad. Just not super grippy like most "good" tracks are, but the track itself is fine. Right lane kinda has a bump, but its gradual.

Definitely a track to go to, to go have fun and run a lot.

Does Lapeer's drag strip have a different cement compound than regular metro Detroit roads? Is it easier, more difficult, or about the same to spin your tires at Lapeer, compare to public roads?

Hell if I know.

All I know is it's a dragstrip I've gone to, and had fun...

I uploaded my videos from when a few of us took our Fbodies out there last June.

traction sucks

my best time there was a 12.9 @ 113 w/ 2.2 60ft leaving from idle

Seems like people get better times in the tower lane (left lane) but controlling your wheelspin off the line is a bitch. I only have a 2.4L and I spin bad at the line even if I launch from idle. Best time I've managed at lapeer is 15.7 @ 88

I also think Lapeer's MPH is off for the 1/4 because my speedo never reaches what I get on my slip.

Oh yea, remember to put your window up when running if you go, that's really the only thing that pisses them off because a lot of people forget it.

Yeah, they'll yell at you to put your windows up - from the tower, if it gets repetitive.

Their trap sensors are off, especially if you run chrome rims...

i've never heard of chrome wheels causing an issue....your tire breaks the beams, not the wheel.
