Cool The quest for power

Too bad no one is willing or has the cash to do it. I can get the head (intake and exhaust) ported and a set of cams (EVO stage cam profile) installed for $1900. The pistons would need to be changed, $700. Then you have the rods $600, crankshaft $dunno, and misc bolts, gaskets $400. Then other misc stuff would run $600. All that for $5000...
And when I asked you for a list and prices you never gave it to me.
Don't you think we'd need clutch and axles to handle it? I wouldn't want to build a motor that's just going to turn around and break something else in the car.
Anyone who's been around for a while knows that I've been waiting for the TAG Twinscrew project to become a reality. Unfortunately I don't think it's going to happen.
Now there's this new idea of swapping for a Procharger. Seemingly they've gotten further in just under a month than TAG has in 6 months.
I already have a deposit (sucker) on the Twinscrew but think I like the idea of the Procharger better.
Basically comes down to two companies in a race for my money.

thank you doc people think a couple of bolt on's thats as far as the car can get i mean its pricey but if you want to be fast it is'nt cheap my old camaro i put 10 grand into before it broke 554hp finally plus the restoration i bet you can make a cobalt smoke the **** outa anything if you build up enternals and if your saying you don't need to for a SRT then your joking your self why don't you ask the guy who hangs with us how many problems he's having because the HP he's putting down is way to much for the stock internals of the engine

HEY JAKE do you know anybody selling an 87-90 mustang gt? if not can you look around and see for me give me a call if you find one

I can understand trying to get as much power out of the car as possible. Even I have a grand scheme for my corvette. However the Cobalt was engineered as a pretty complete package I think the focus should be on 'what can I do to be a better driver in this car'. I am not coming out here to say people on this forum can't drive, but I think everyone has room for improvement even myself. I think the focus should be autox

My intent in getting this car was to become a better driver.

i would much rather have a mustang cobra or camaro, or something like that than my car 4cyl=crap.. Im gettin good gas mileage, and my car is fast for a 4banger.. think what yall want $5000 oh thats it? I know some people that dont even pay that much for a car.. imagine what u could do to a camaro or cobra with that money... they actually have motor to work with which we are lacking.. 5.7>2.0.. throw a supercharger or turbo for 3thousand on the camaro and it will own

I def. didn't say what i did to make you feel bad about your decision you bought what makes you happy its all good. I am just saying that this car was designed relatively well from the factory. For those that have the money for the extreme go for it. As a fellow car enthusiast I think the most important thing is to try and become a better driver too.

I agree totally. Not saying I dont like my car, cuz i do, i love it, but If i made about 5k more a year I would be driving a GTO, not a Cobalt. Infact, I am actually looking at getting an IROC. I love those body styles

By the way...does anyone know where the Social Security Building is? I live in Chesapeake so I dont know if i have to go to "one in Ches." if there is one. I need to get my case for Disability goin so if ya'll know where it is that would be great.

Dude, its taken me this long to make sure the stuff works. I think axles and the clutch need to be replaced too...I didn't add that in. I don't think you'll get what your looking for out of a procharger. I found a kenne bell 1.6l but the guy was asking too much for it. I even had a shop willing to fab an adapter plate to make it fit. With the parts I listed, rice got 425whp and broke the crank over 8100 rpm's.

The build I mentioned walked a viper....so, the cobra is tight, just not as tight as it might like to be.

The only company showing any effort with tuning is www.sctflash.com. They contacted me about using my car for a tuning ginny pig but they wanted a 2.2 with a stick not an automatic. He did say how ever that once they get the tuning right with the stick that he would contact me again when they were ready for an automatic. The guys as SCT have said that they have been able to communicate with the computer and have been able to change things like the rev limiter and air fuel ratio's and fuel maps. They are still trying to figure out how to get the computers to read high boost lvls. It should be too much longer before there is something for us. Just needs some more time is all.

Without building the motor a turbo, for now its the most power and it can be tuned.
Building the motor up will increase that power with just the M62, lower the compression and you can run more boost, increase the compression and you run less boost, this would work with a more efficient blower, twin screw for example.
Honestly, I'd build the motor and use what we have. I am saving for head work and cams right now. Once I get that done, I'll put in lower compression pistons and run more boost. I am still looking for a stronger crankshaft, the GMPP one is $3500 That's a lot of coin for a crankshaft. I might go without a new crankshaft and not take the revs beyond 8000, that limits the potential for more power though.
So, in short, I dunno

haha yea $3500 for a crankshaft I dont think soo.. coarse if u wanna play ur gunna have to pay... the bottom end cant take too much if u added a turbo neways.. I already started a lil bit of my build with a cometic head gasket, head studs, and main studs so we'll see.. Either way is gunna be costly.. damn im dunno twinscrew and turbo do sound nice right about now

I'm glad us 2.2 guys have other options then GMPP for a crankshaft.
https://www.turbotechracing.com/prod...idproduct=3130 its $774.99. Lots cheaper

I heard hahns turbo wasn't that great. A couple guys I knew had the hahn turbo on their 2.2 ecotec cavys and they said it felt more like a supercharger than a turbo. Like it wasn't building up boost but it was already there.
