Moving to VA

Got a few questions for anyone still in Virginia and viewing . I understand that in VA you need to do safety checks, and from the look of it on the VADOT website they seem pretty thorough. Also my car was sold from my local dealer in AZ and has window tint that I am not sure meets the VA requirement and was curious how the local PD and HWY Patrol look at window tinting. I'll be in the Charlottesville area and was concerned with a few changes from AZ living. Oh, any idea on how much the registration is going for 2009 cobalt ss?

Thanks

They don't check the window tint during safety checks, well at least they didn't do mine and it was done at a major dealership. The law is 30% and I had 50% and got pulled over in Norfolk and Virginia Beach the same freaking day for the tint after driving around the area for 2 years and no issue. So I removed it and am about to put 35% on because it is what is easy to get.

Im moving to Waynesboro. Thanks for the little info on the tint, my tint was put on at the dealership (AZ package) so I bet it is too dark for VA standards just don't want to get a ticket for it. Any idea on registration? I just renewed my AZ rego and don't really want to switch unless I get a refund of what I already spent.

Thanks

Not sure about refunds, but Virginia registration is higher than most states and they make you pay property tax on your car based on year/make/model and goes off lowest KBB value. I am not sure what mine was as my wife takes care of all the bills I just make the $$.

Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles this is the VA DMV site.

Registration is about 40. The tint laws are 35% and 50%. I've been running 35% on all my windows on my LS coupe in va beach and norfolk since 07 when I bought it. And 20 and 35 on my SS Sedan with no issues since I bought it in march.

Tint won't be an issue is you don't have the car registered in virginia. I'm in the Hampton roads area.

I live in VA and I Have been pulled over twice for window tint. The first time I received a 95 dollar ticket. The second time I just got a warning but he said even if I have the vehicle registered in a different state the car would still have to meet the VA standards. The VA standards are at least 50% light allowed through. My car is 15%.

Thanks for the update. I find the property tax for cars to be a little overkill but that's one way to collect hella tax revenue for the state... Not happy I got my wife a newer car... gonna get raped on that

That cop is full of ****.
Your car meets the standards of the state it is registered. Think about this: I live in Florida where we only have rear plates. I go to Ohio where they require front and back. Can I get a ticket for no front plate? No.
Tint is the same way though that doesn't mean you can't or won't get hassled over it.
