For all the "smack talk" about the dyno being low this past weekend (some claiming 40 HP low)....

As an engineer, sometimes I get "over analytical" looking for answers to questions and spend way too much time looking into issues.

1. This is a DynoJet, known as the most accurate.

2. Talked to the shop owner again today to address this "issue". EVERY month, he runs though the calibration checks to make sure it is correct.

3. When comparing the numerous runs accumulated on my computer (I have the software!), I find the following worth note...

4. Advertised FWHP vs. WHP... For numerous stock cars, even using conservative numbers for drivetrain loss (excepted about 12 - 13% for FWD), even at using a 10% loss, the stock cars showed good numbers, most over what could be expected, for WHP.

5. Correction factors: Damn, we see all kinds of corrections used. uncorrected will usually show the "best" numbers. Many posting results use "STD" correction. The most accurate, but lowest is "SAE".

6. Comparing two cars who dyno'd at our Feb. meet and this past weekend: Both only showed a differential of near 1%. That ain't sheet!

In conclusion:

Too many rely on vendor claims and "ricer math" to estimate their actual output!

Many want "bragging rights" to post on the interwebz. If so, find the most inaccurate and optimistic dyno in your area and BS yourself and everyone else.

Sometimes the truth hurts.

Disclaimer: Do whatever you want and want to believe. Unfortuately that may not correlate to reality.
