Does carbon fiber stay looking like it does when u buy it? Because what i have seen looks like the finish has come off of it. (i don't know anything about carbon fiber)

I knew it was a matter of time before you did a carbon fiber spoiler. Sorry to get off topic, but where did your get your IPP hood at?

woo message me when they come in ...im not too big on the preordering thing...so all i need to double check is installation and it looks like u covered that, then the fact that it will fit 2006 models and i just now saw the 05+ on the top so i guess thats that..let me know....its gonna look sweet on my yellow balt...

 

Modern Performance you guys have some quality stuff I just wish you guys would pull some of your focus away from the srt and start producing more quality products for the balt. But overall

 

A couple of questions that have not yet been answered:

1. Does the CF wing have the same 1.5" slot underneath it that the stock one does? I want it smooth since the slot on the stock wing cancels out any down force that could be created. With that slot the air can't flow faster under the wing to create lower pressure under the wing. A competitor offering a similar if not the same product is saying that it does not.

2. Is the Epoxy used with the CF, UV protected, will the expoxy yellow after sitting in the sun for a year or two?

3. Will your wing be stronger/stiffer then stock? I do not want it flapping around on the freeway like the stock one.

1) Yes, it has the slot on the bottom. That is done to significantly increase the strength of the spoiler, and I would NOT buy any spoiler that does not have this slot, as the spoiler will not be NEARLY as strong. Downforce ? On a front wheel drive car ? I dont want to suprise you, but the factory spoiler is for styling, not for downforce. Downforce on a front wheel drive car (in the rear) is for the most part not good. The design of the front end of the Cobalt, with the sloping hood, provides plenty of downforce as well in the front of the car.

2) The spoiler is clear coated with UV resistant automotive grade clear coat. This, is the best method to combat the carbon fiber from degrading in sunlight. Although many retailers and distributors wont tell you to do this, I will be the first to recommend reclear coating any hood or other carbon fiber part you have every 1.5 - 2 years. I have had a LOT of carbon fiber hoods, accesories on my cars over the last few years and have found this to be the best method to keep carbon fiber looking good.

3) Carbon fiber, is naturally stronger, and less flexible than molded plastic.

 

MP has offered the Cobalt IPP hood for almost a year and a half now. IPP Has been out of stock for some time though, and we are expecting to get more in roughly 4 weeks.


We will have limited quantities coming in, so preordering it is the best thing to do, to guarantee you getting one. We will NOT bill you for it until it comes in. If you haven’t been around on the boards when we did the release of the K&N intake system for the Cobalt SS, we had the intakes way before anyone else, and we also had a huge preorder list for customers. We did not bill peoples credit cards until they came in, and we shipped them ALL off as promised. Also keep in mind, MP has been in business now for nearly 10 years, and we are here to stay. You can feel comfortable with ordering, OR preordering with Modern Performance.

By the way, locally we have a brand new state of the art 4.4 mile road course that I'm interested in playing on. Some rear down force to balance out the front weight bias would be appreaciated. An extra 70-90 pounds of down force at 100 MPH isn't going do anything but help to create a better weight balance. The stock wing is just useless drag now, why not make it functional?

I was just wondering if you will be offering the caps by themselves. I have an LS spoiler and want an SS spoiler so I will prolly get the one made by cobalt-addictions seeing how the price for the entire spoiler from them is the same price for just blade and cap (no pillars) from you. I would be interested in caps only for this reason. Please let me know.

well its an oem replacment peice...meaning it will look like the oem wing...so the slot stays, gm designed it in mind to keep it stronger...the c/f will add a little bit of streigth, but not nearly enough to eliminate the slot

just like the oem style hoods...they keep the ridges in there for strength

 

If you just look at my response and the wording, it can easily look like it contradicts each other.

This piece was designed to be very strong, and it is MUCH stronger than the factory piece because it 1) has the slot which helps reduce any possible flex) and 2) because its made from carbon fiber and is much more solid than thin plastic.

I assure you this piece is strong, and is designed well.
