We dont have any black valve covers in stock right now.
We only stocked red for a while, but didnt have much interest in them.
If youd like, we can get a valve cover from GM, have it powdercoated for you and ship it to you though, turn around would be roughly 2.5 - 3 weeks and it would be made for you specifically. No extra charge for that.

If youd like to do that, please contact me or call me .

The valve cover should just unbolt and come right off the top of the engine. You have to pull the spark plug coils off first though. It's an easy job, just make you put the gasket back on and don't get dirt in there.

Why don't you just paint it with High Heat Paint? I know that powder coating is great but I personally am going to paint mine. Just to lazy at the moment.

You don't have to sand anything if your gonna paint it just prime and have at ot with a can of spray paint! And if you can't get yours off to paint what are you gonna do with a powder coated one? I'm not in any way flaming you I'm just asking is all.

Now polishing you may need to sand it to get rid of any rough spots. ANd that can be a bitch as I just finished mine. I'd post pics but I droped and broke my camera.

The Modern Performance Powder coating is far thicker and harder than sprayed paint -- I expect it to last a long time. I also appreciate the fact that it was indeed a new GM valve cover to begin with. It brightened up my engine compartment. You could probably do a simular job with paint but it was easier and cleaner starting out with the MP VC. If you can afford it I recommend it. You'll need a new seal kit from GM -- no aftermarket VC seals are available yet.

I prepared everything (to include prepositioning a new seal kit) before I started working on taking off the valve cover. The factory seal is glued in so I left it alone and stored my original -- didn't attempt to take the seal off. Just wanted peace-of-mind cause I didn't want to be in the middle of removing the old VC and installing the new VC and breaking the seal -- they were not available (even to order) from any local parts stores when I did mine. The seal kit PN is 12584084 and costs around $20.

You could try to use your old seal, and it might work, but why take the chance on an oil leak?
