05 Cobalt 2.2 Transmission Fluid

Hi all, Im a new member but long time lurker. Have had my 05 cobalt 2.2 since 12k miles in 2015. 2021 and Im at 79,300 miles. Its been my first car and ive taken great care of her.
I want to change the transmission fluid since its been almost 17 years since it was put in. My manual shows that I should use Dextron III but ive also read to use Dextron VI. Is there a significant difference? I want what is best for my car (2005 2.2 Base A/T) but im unsure if VI is the better of the two.

Thanks for any insight and Im glad to finally be a member on the forum

Dex VI is the official replacement for dex III and will work perfectly fine in your trans. Its backwards compatible with dex III in nearly all applications except for (what i have heard) a few of the older mechanical auto transmissions with the original springs. Dex III was kinda a synthetic blend while the newer dex VI is considered a full synthetic fluid. Lots of improvements over dex III, ill attach the gm bulletin that you can read over if you wish from back when dex III was discontinued.
