Post A/C defroster ---F Great Mystery SOLVED (pic)

Been working on some things lately that I have let go for a long time
in this episode finally making an attempt to fix the air conditioner/defroster.
Occasionally it might work but it was a rare occurrence. When that once in a blue moon actually happened, I noticed it cooled fine. So, I figure it is not a refrigerant charge problem. Just something for some unknown reason is preventing the compressor from turning on and now I'm thinking electrical. It's probably a bad sensor or something.
Autozone had it in stock
Changed the temp sensor first and noticed very little coolant escaped. AC would work for one day and then ---F returned on the CID again . I read a previous post and the person said change the thermostat. I didn't understand why but finally said screw it, I'll change the t-stat and coolant. When I finally got the old t-stat out, this is what it looked like. I know this has been a subject that has been "done to death" but I hope this helps someone out. Looks like the inner rubber gasket on the t-stat has started to come apart or deformed and would never completely close. A/C has worked ever since. Battling a few other issues still, might make some new posts on them later.
