Car will not idle properly, then dies

Hello I bought my ss/sc 2.0 06 cobalt about last year. I was driving it today and all of a sudden check engine light started to flash, then vehicle started to loose engine power. The higher gear I went into the lower the power I would get. I had to drive home in 2nd gear. Engine did not overheat, however engine was shaking not violently, but still shaking. Engine then died on me. Pulled up hood and noticed on right side of eco tech engine there was oil sprayed on the side of fuse box . But not oil smell, but oil residue. Please help. Im at 90,000 miles

Ouch sounds like she let go. Post pics of the engine bay. Any knocking or strange sounds before this happened?

Photobucket or imageshack to post pics. Use the img code. Knocking is bad news. Motor is probably toast.

Okay i got the results in, not so bad after all trouble code p0304 cylinder misfire. So we are going to check spark plugs, as well as the cylinder or solenoid from what the technician was telling me.

Subaru sound?
Spark plug blew out, destroying itself, threads, and the coil?

You know it and you got it. Sounds like a Baru (Subaru) . Pulled off the spark plug cover, #4 plug blew out into spark plug boot, lost thread inside where spark plug goes in. Technician here in San Tan (Travis) advised that we can recover via sav a thread or fix a thread kit. He did say we might have to take the head off, but hopefully not. Thankx you guys are great. BTW does any one know what this button does for the car it is located by my cup holder and it is an off and on switch

That's custom from the previous owner. The trim piece removes easy, see what it's connected to

Figures. I had the same problem before. I did have oil sprayed around the fuse box area/block driver's side.

I fixed mine with a helicoil and it's held up for awhile now. Maybe coming on to a year.. I did not have to take the head off for that.
Hopefully you can get it fixed like that, or yes, your tech is right about having to get a new head if it's not repairable with a thread kit.

Good luck. The car does sound cool only running on 3 cylinders though.

Yeah its was all good, i was only charged about 150 part and labor total. It runs better than before, no heads needed to be taken off. Boy I tell you, I was about to loose my head.

Okay I will follow the wire, I wonder what it could be??? BTW is the sub in the trunk of the car ( pioneer that came stock with car) can that sub woofer be switched out for a working one. The one I have is loosing its seal. Is is a 10' or a 12'inch sub. And can i use an xm cobalt deck from a newer cobalt in my 06, and can i switch my boost gauge to the computer display one that the 2009 cobalt has.
