New To the 4 Cylinder world
New To the 4 Cylinder world
Hey guys! My name is Bryan i will be picking my 2006 Cobalt SS/SC up tomorrow after work but i figured i would make an account here in-case i have any questions. I am totally new to the tuner(?)/4 cylinder world. i used to DD a 1997 Trans Am WS6, but with the the build at the point of no longer streetable in the rain i decided to pick up a winter car/DD. So thats when i decided to get a cobalt ss.
So heres a little bit about what i know about the car so far.
Black 2006 G85 package
70k miles
ZZP stage 3 intercooler.
Injen CAI
Colder plugs
Badmab header
GMPP catback
it might have a ZZP downpipe i cant remember right now.
My first question is: with the stock pulley and only the mods listed above, is it really necessary to have the colder plugs? is it harmful to have them. Or should i swap them to regular plugs when i change the oil..?
Future plans are
ZZP CAI
3.0 Pulley.
-injectors
tuned by myself
--Nothing too extreme as it has to maintain a DD reliability. /drive ability

But for the mean time should I keep the colder plugs in there. It runs fine.
Also- it does have a ZZP careless down pipe and throws a code for the missing cat. How do you solve that code? Just tune it out?
I picked it up in clarkson MI. I live in Casco twp. In between marine city and chesterfield.
I read that an upgraded cam might be needed for the 2.8..

You're out in the boonies.
&&Sure am and wouldn't have it any other way.
So are the colder plugs good to run until then?

If you are just going to throw on the pulley and 80s I don't see the point in swapping plugs again. It's not going to harm the car running a cooler plug. The colder plug will remove heat more efficiently, and if they are not fouling out/the car runs good I don't see a point in changing. While your stock pullied car now doesn't need much help in the range of a cooler plug, it won't hurt it.
Discovered the car has a cobalt SS.net decal on it. I'll post pictures tomorrow let's see if anyone can recognize the owner(member). The fog lights have HIDS in them and keeps blowing the fuse so once it warms up if it ever does, I'll check to see if the ballasts are bad or hooked up wrong. I'll also check the wiring loom for frayed wires. I'll keep you guys updated & mods feel free to move this to a more appropriate category.
welcome!! as for your mods id leave the cold plugs in but your call they should be changed and re gapped every 15-20k any way so your call. Go with a 2.8 pulley and 60s and youll be one happy cobalt owner. good luck
