New to the forum and here to get help with modifying/customizing my Cobalt like everyone else here. Looking forward to learning a few things and bettering my car.
Sadly, my Cobalt isn't an SS and it's not got any real performance modifications yet. I started with visual customizations first as it was cheaper/easier. Tried joining another forum, but even a month and a half after joining, I still can't post. So, here I am.
No, it's not an SS, searched for a reasonably priced lower mileage 08' Sport Sedan or 09'/10' TC sedan with an Automatic (too much city driving to go manual) for about a year with no luck. Limited my search to a 500 mile radius, but realistically, had no intention of going beyond 300 miles.
This is an 09' LT that I came across that had 129k on it and extensive paperwork up until the 3rd owner at 114k. Kid I bought it from used it to drive back and fourth from home, work, and Vo-tec College. He owned it for 14 months and put on 15k. When he bought it, it was bone stock, he tinted the windows, put in aftermarket headlights, 3rd brake light, and a stereo system. System was returned to stock before he sold it to me earlier this year and he bought a truck.
I've since put the 18" TC rims on it, Eibach springs, rear visor, and SS replica wing. Still a few more visual modifications I'd like to make to the car and later perhaps toss a supercharger on it so it's not all just for show, even though she's an automatic.
That leads me to why I've joined, more/leas. After putting in the Sportlines, I got a look that I liked, but quickly found out it rides like crap with stock suspension otherwise. As of now, the stock shocks and struts are shot, not to mention, completely original. Thought about getting new shock/struts to support the springs, but now I'm starting to find the car in fact sits too low, as my knees are shot and it's not so easy to get in and out of.
Figured maybe I'd switch to FE5 shocks/struts/springs, but springs are discontinued. So, used is the only route left if going that option.
As for the rear SS wing, I SO disliked how the low profile stock spoiler looked. Sure, it's not exactly a perfect fit for the car, but I much prefer it over the original. I mainly went with it because I "knew" it'd fit and roughly how it'd look. One thing I've noticed, it sure flexes while driving. May swap it out someday, but for now, it'll do. Suspension is my priority right now.
Unfortunately the tjin(last pic) isn't available for the sedan. I posted on your other thread give the yyz springs a look. They lower a bit not to much where it should make it a challenge for you. They are on the pricey side but they are the best best money can get you
Not many Cobalt SSs around here where I live and not much action in the way of racing, street or track.
Last time I ever "raced" anyone, if you want to call it that, I was on interstate when a work buddy was going to pass me with his bright yellow Kia Rio. I decided that wasn't happening and even though I hit 110mph, he was right on my tail. Before that, well, it was back in my school days, so MANY moons ago.
For a street car the main FE5 components worth swapping for an actual performance gain that will be noticed is the shocks, springs. Even though I have swapped in the FE5 lower control arms on my own car I'd assume the stock stamped steel control arms could be nearly as good on the street with spherical or solid rubber trailing bushings pressed in. The rear beam can be upgraded by simply bolting on a rear "sway bar" stiffener. I personally wouldn't mess with swapping the brakes for street use unless just for scene points. For better stopping power upgrade the pads and rotors.
