what's up papa, as your name suggests you're a dad of 3 kids, I am also. I also have a 2.4 cobalt, its an 08. In a lot of people's opinion the 08 2.4, or LE5 as its referred (same with 06 and 07) is the worst platform and that is only because GM went cast internals instead of staying forged like the 06 and 07. This isn't really a big issue per se, it just can become an issue if you start throwing boost at it above 12psi, approximately.
With that being said, you can go 1 of 2 ways on adding performance...
1) go all bolt ons and top out at maybe 200whp (at the wheel) at most! This includes header, down pipe, neutral balance shafts, upgraded valve springs, and whatever floats your boat at that. Its going to be significantly more $$ if you go this route. Granted, it won't cost you all of that upfront and hence you can get it over time....
2) which is highly recommended (I went this route myself) and order a ZZP supercharger kit. Or if you're brave, part it out piece by piece yourself. This will net you 250whp at precisely 2k. Downside its all of that upfront if you go the ZZP s/c kit. By far the best investment you can make. Take a look around on the forum in the engine specific 2.4l area. There is a wealth of information just poke around and it won't be hard to see.

If you need to know something more specific, there are plenty of experts on here such as Slowbalt2000, ItalianJoe and many many more. I can help you out to an extent. Welcome to CSS.net!

Thanks I appreciate the information I've been running the possibilities through and I'm really not sure what way to go... Supercharger install is almost as much as I paid for the car 😁 but I do enjoy driving it... picked it up for a winter beater and it's become my new hobby if I do supercharge it I'll probably wait till fall any do the work myself... I'm a little weary of the computer tuning and in Newfoundland where I live there aren't alot of places that do it...I did track down a guy but he's a couple hours away from me and he's never tuned a 2.4 but has done work on the 2.2

Well, fortunately for you, you are definitely not the only one in NewFoundland who has the same situation as you. And fortunately for you because you can contact them as far as who they went through to get tuned.

And on that note, you can always get a canned tune from either ZZP or someone on here would be more than happy to help you out. If you do choose someone on here to do a remote tune, you will need HPTuners which is $650. SO.... if you dont have the keesh, id just say go bolt-ons and be done with it. I am just letting you know that you have options, obviously, and you are definitely not the only one who has tricked out a Cobalt in the Newfoundland area. Best of luck!
