I just wanted to say HI to everyone before I start asking a bunch of questions lol. I have a 06 Cobalt ss/sc with a zzp cai and a shorty header with a 2 1/2" down pipe and a 28" cherry bomb muffler. The car I have and will be working on is an ice racing car that my son drives so its nothing fancy and is off road use only. We are looking to put some power in it this summer to get ready for next racing season so I am going to try to gather all the information I can before we start working on it in a couple months or so. I have also been in contact with ZZP the last couple weeks but I still have a lot of questions. Thank you for this forum!!
Welcome. What kind of power are you looking for? Staying with the M62 more power is basically pulleying down, finding a way to keep the belt tight, adding more fuel with bigger injectors and improving the intercooling. If you want to invest more time and money you can work on improving flow through the head and/or increasing the compression of the pistons so to let them do some of the work instead of over-driving the supercharger. Let us know what your goals are, what fuel you want to run, and how much time/money you are willing to spend to get there.
So what zzp has suggested was a stage 3 kit with 60lb injectors and a dual pass end plate. They are suggesting a 2.9 pulley with that. They also brought up running e85 to get 8-12% more power. This year I’d like to stay in the $1000-$1200 range because as my wife says “it’s only an ice racer” lol. I was also thinking about putting in the 82lb valve springs also so they can bump the rev limiter up some. The car will be run in second gear wide open. I brought up the ls throttle body and zzp doesn't think it will help much. There are 2 cars that we are trying to catch on the track. One is a Honda Prelude which we have in the straights until the cobalt hits the rev limiter and the other one is a neon coupe with a na 2.0 that moves, his rev limiter is 7800 so we all know it isn’t close to being stock. We are running 205/65/15 tires in the front, a 205/60/15 in the right rear and a 195/60/15 in the left rear. All the tires have about 1000 screws that stick out 3/8” for traction. I’ve been looking at adding a rear sway bar also to help in the corners. These car move on the ice goin 70-80mph in the straights. I guess my main question is the e85, is it a good idea or do I stay with a 91-93 tune? Just looking for suggestions at this point and to see what you guys think. Thank you!!
I'll get back to you on my opinions on that setup but seems like a good start. Revving out will help stretch your gears between shifts and the power doesn't dive off with the M62.
Quick question though as I have seen ice drag racing but you actually do a course on the ice? Are there any good videos of this? I'm very interested as I only recently learned about ice drag racing from a 1320 youtube video.

The way we do it here is like a regular race track, just an oval. We run a 8 lap heat race to decide placement for the 12 lap feature race. We have 4 classes being 4cyl fwd non studded, 6cyl fwd non studded, rear wheel drive and the 4/6cyl studded class. You can check out the fb page, it’s M&M Ice Breakers in Marinette WI, lots of pics on there. If you do go and look at pics I have the #68 Blue/Orange/Red SS. I would post a pic of our car on here but haven’t figured it out yet lol. You can go on YouTube also and type in “ice racing Marinette wi” there are some videos on there from inside the cars, it’s a blast.
Thank you!! Everyone has been great and very helpful. My son had a 2007 sc and he loved it but he started college so we sold it a got him a Malibu to commute to Green Bay and back. We now have a 2006 sc that we use for ice racing. I was wondering how ppl would be in here seeing as it’s a race car vs a daily.
