Picked up an 09 HHR SS

Owned a base cobalt for a while that i lowered, did various bolt ons to, now my girl drives it (at stock height) and I got a great deal on 2009 HHR SS 5spd Brembos, lsd, sunroof and bluetooth for $10,900 52k miles.

Somebody LOVES the red interior!

Been around long enough to read tons about lnf's, helped my buddy do bolt ons and tune his 09 SS before, so I know what im doing for this already. Got a pretty extensive mod list planned for the next year.

Soon as I get tax money:

Suspension- Was going to do Megan EZ Coilovers but might just stick with SSC springs to save some money its already pretty low. Also need to front CAB's they are making a bit of noise .

ZZP intake
Downpipe
Find used Dejon upper/low charge pipes and run HKS SQV BOV
intercooler
3 bar map sensors
muffler delete
rpd swap
24-26psi tune

Also in the future, black depot headlights with retrofits, ive got a stage 3 morimoto kit ready to go already with 35w Mori Ballasts, 5000k XB35 bulbs and Porsche Panamera shrouds custom made to fit 120MM RGBLED rings internally! Should look awesome once done.

I helped my neighbor wrap is WRX headliner in suede the other day and it came out awesome! Definitely have to do that to this, i HATE the factory greyish headliner and pillars!

Plan on doing a ton of stuff to it this year one of the first things that I forgot was I hate how the shifter feels in this car. It feels the same in its throws like a 100,000 mile 2005 SS/SC did that just felt cheap and shitty. Whats a better option for the money than TWM? $430 for shifter, knob, bushings and everything is just too much.

Anyways, I havent been on here for a while because I realized my base model was a horrific waste of time....Im back!

My friend recently got a HHR SS, except his is an auto. Thing is fun though. Launch control is a riot, really all the thing does is do a burnout for 50 feet or so lol

Is there an option for the upper engine mount that isnt solid? I really want to have a more connected feel with the car and I feel like shifter and mounts are where to start but ive been in a car with solid mounts and it felt really crappy, whole dashboard shook coming off the clutch!

Check out Chevy HHR Forums, and read the reviews... Plus they are not "solid" metal on metal, they do have poly to absorb the harmonics.

Was never sold on the looks but performance and utility are undeniable anything with an lnf is cool anyway. Hhr ss seems like a good way to have something performance oriented and pretty quick while still being able to tote the kids and their junk. What is the insurance like do the consider it a sports mini van or do they overlook the ss badge?

BPS is a great deal and a lot cheaper, don't forget rotated mounts, the stock upper should be left with rotated mounts though, highly recommend Powell.

do you mean leave the upper motor mount alone and get rotated mounts? Not really sure what exactly the pros/cons of rotated mounts are ill have to do more research, I thought they were just for guys that lower the car quite a bit changing the axle of the cv joints.

Helps with wheel hop with the trailing control arm bushings.

Yes I mean the stock upper mounts because if you go aftermarket upper mounts it doesn't allow the engine to properly rotate.

What do you guys recommend for rotated mounts? I read someone bashing ZZP's saying they are true or something, not really sure.

Probably me because they're not rotated just stiffer in the stock location, others are rotated and Powell made the first ones for the time attack cobalt after that the others are pretty much just copies, explaining why they're cheaper.

Its a 5 Speed. They do make it in a auto though. I wish I got one, I already got a the 5 speed driving out of my system, and for commuting auto is much smoother, plus I feel the need to beat on this way more because its too easy to just wind out a gear. Plus rolling brake boost auto burnouts are freeking nuts.

Great looking mini-truck man. I really wanted one but they are getting increasingly hard to find, especially in such great condition. Would be the perfect balance of performance and family duty vehicle for me.

Love it!

Yep, but they have a nerfed tune on the auto HHR SS's. I believe the HP number is only 235 and the torque is also done. Obviously a quick tune from GM or one of the aftermarket will bring it to equal with the manual. Only issue is that it's a 4 speed auto and I can't see it performing quite as well.

Still would be a blast to own though. Would shock a lot of people...

Damn it. Now I want to start looking for one again. Great. Wife will kill me.

Auto is faster than the 5 speed. Theres a guy running low 12's on the HHR forums ALL he has is K&N intake pipe, 3" catted downpipe, 3 Inch catback. E tune makes 350whp 450ft lbs and runs slicks. Auto is BEAST off the line.

Tax season was good to this HHR btw:

3 Pod setup with dual Aeroforces, currently have the far right open, didnt want the EGT gauge the guy had before. What gauge should I run there now?

Other Mods have acquired but waiting for 6 1/2 feet of snow to go away to install:
ZZP catless Downpipe
ZZP Intake
ZZP Intercooler with Upper/Lower pipes
3 Bar Map Sensors
Forge BPV
OTTP Short Throw
Hardcore Rear Sway Bar
Depo black headlights with Porsche Panamera shrouded H1's with 120MM Led halos.

Most importantly:

As soon as the road clears a bit (6 1/2 ft snow) will be 25 PSI Hptuned with KY stage 3 clutch.

I agree faster in a straight line but I like the twistys too and like being able to row my own gears for that. Damn you though, I have started searching for one in my area...

Love the mods. Gonna be a mini-beast.

Reminds me of when GM cared about performance.

By the way, for shifter I would look at the OTTP. Not 100% sure it works on the HHR but it is a great product. I have it in my car and it's great. Based on some reading about the TRW, OTTP is hands down better at this point and much cheaper.
