SS Down

Hey guys,

New to the site as a memeber but used it a few times before as a guest.
I have a 08 T/C SS that im in love with. I "had" a 35th anniversery camaro. I stopped to help someone in a wreck (who was a drunk driver)....the wreck was then hit again by a truck who out of control the totalled my car =(

The change from a V8 to the turbo 4 is a change. Ive owned this cobalt i now call Trigger for a little over a year. here is how the car stands as of right now.

85,000miles-
Bought the car with K/N cold air with a tune in the cruise control.

Now 123,000-
the stalk inter cooler broke so replaced it with zzp upper and lower charge pipe, new I/C
external BOV.

Just as I replaced it, the turbo started blowing oil. So just arrived by UPS today the new stalk turbo and TaiL wastegate(that i need some info on).

Also order last friday the zzp 3inch DP should be here next friday. will be installing all of this next weekend.

Any guidance on installing the turbo or using the wastegate, I will take any info on it. I look forward to moding my car and keeping the updates coming with everyone.

No external waste gate or blow off valve on stock turbo set up... you want if anything a forge diverter valve and that's it.

you can run a blow off if you want... youll just need a block off plate for the bypass valve.

as for the wastegate, yeah you cant use that without a lot of custom work and theres no point to it.

sorry to hear about your camaro. welcome to the site man.

I would not dump 15k into a Cobalt, JUST NO. You will never see that money again. I would like to see some pictures of your 4th gen Camaro though before the wreck and after lol .

Well you've already started off on the wrong foot brah. That new stock turbo you bought will hold you in the mid 300's.

These cars make decently cheap easy power. You've got the main bolt on's already... You should just drop 3g's on a new turbo and tires, call it a day, no need to put 15k into a 6-7 year old car that has had 2-3 owners.

Did you have an LSD aswell? Some do some don't. Even if it says g85 on the trunk sticker get the tag of the tranny to be sure because tranny could've been replaced. You will need this for a high hp/tq fwd car

roger, i know the stalk turbo isnt a power builder but its all i had money for with the current turbo busted. any of us driving a cobalt love the looks we get after beating the new SS camaros or 5.0s. i plan on keeping the car and having a built motor / turbo system / fuel system / tranny / body reinforcement and so on. the idea is the motor built to last with power. yes g85. my car has only had 1 owner other than me. when i went out test driving any t/c ss cobalts i could find, the one i bought was the best maintained. little higher miles but following carfax and seeing the person was doing oil changes all over the US. easy to see the miles were not hard miles. the other cobalts however must have been from kids. worn insides, scratched paint covered with nail polish, weird engine noise. you name it.

anyways, the turbo swap on saturday went pretty well. lost a little coolant and made just a little longer oil drain line(didnt like not having any room to work with). adding the down pipe was simple. just lacking the tune, should be getting this next saturday.

side note/question for anyone who has done this swap before. anyone have a crack in the exhaust manifold that followed into the turbo? or noticed that a stud on the manifold was lose?
