as much as i hate to do it i would love to have a little extra from my cobalt and am thinking of getting a sniper 35 wet kit. im new to nitrous and am a little scared of hurting my car. is tuning realy required for such a small 35 shot. im getting tuned in a few days so i wont have time to get the kit and put it in by then and i already have been waiting over 3 weeks for my appointment to get into db performance so changing the appointment is out.

heres my mods. 2.6 pully, 60 injector, K&N CAI, vibrant 4-2-1 header with 3'' catless downpipe, magnaflow catback with no resonator, duel pass, zzp stage 3 front mount heat exchanger, GMPP upgraded clutch, mild blower porting, zzp trans mounts.

 

from what I recall reading a dry kit is the way to go with the LSJ. Usually, in an N/A car you wouldn't need a tune, especially with a wet kit. I ran a 75 wet shot regularly on maxima with no "tune" for it. no issues.

 

Just make sure your Fuel/Nitrous ratio is correct. Running lean witb Nitrous is what causes holes in Pistons

 

do have to worry about knock?

 

i thinka dry shot i would have to tune, because you would have to tune the car to give it more fuel when when you spray it. where a wet shot sprays fuel and nitrous. witch would be less likely to have a tune right? correct me if im wrong ive never ran nitrous.

 

usually with such a small shot, the car can compensate for it. That was my experience w/ the VQ-series motor anyways.

However, why not run the GM S3 ECU w/ has a map for nitrous? IIRC, Trifecta and maybe someone else has unlocked that ECU allowing you to also have A/C (which GM had turned off to deter street use). It supports a 50shot. Basically if the conditions are "safe" it will spray, if it detects knock, it will cut the spray.

I would do this right if you plan on running nitrous. Even a small shot is nothing to take lightly. This is your motor we are talking about. Do your research, get the necessary supporting mods and do it right. JMO of course...

 

im not spending all that money on a gm stage 3 plus with all my mods that ecu would be pointless i would still have to retune.

 

then when you blow your **** up for being a cheap ass and not wanting to be safe...you'll wish you would have just done **** right.

 

agreed, GM stage 3 is a good advice for running small shot safely

 

i ran nitrous for years on a gm stage 2 tune. i wouldn't run spray on such a small pulley though. don't worry about these guys saying to do all this crazy **** with ecu control. i ran my nitrous off two safety switches and a b&m transbrake button

 

your not getting it. a gm stage 3 will not work for my set up why would i buy a stage 3 ecu that wont work with my set up and will have to be retuned when i could just tune the ecu i have now.

 

thanks for a real reply. i just wont run it. its funny how some people get so offended over nothing. im just looking for some insight and im not a moron im an ase and g.m. certified tech but never messed with nitrous. saying a dry shot is safer then a wet shot and telling me i need to spend tons of money on an overpriced ecu i dont need tells me some other people dont know much about this stuff either.

 

not many have run nitrous through these cars. i can tell you from experience that they handle it very well in the correct manner. i ran a 60 shot(pump gas), 75 shot(pump gas) and 100 shot on race gas

 

im guessing these where wet shots? how much did you have to richen the car and how much timing did you have to take out for the 60 shot?

 

yes they were all wet shots. no timing was pulled for the 60 shot. 1 degree were taken out for the 75 and 3 degrees were added on race gas

 

that doesnt sound to bad. how much more fuel did yo have to give it?

 

always ran it around 11.3-11.5 afr when i had tuned it. i don't remember the jet sizes or anything though

 

YOU'RE not getting it. you only need the GM stage 3 file, not ecu. I already stated you would probably be fine with such a small shot anyways. But in the end, you will want to run a higher shot...all of us who've run nitrous before have.

 

on a cobalt I can't see this going well

 

this car is my gas milage vehicle that i drive daily. i have a 80 mile drive to work every day. its realy not worth it to me to hurt the thing. if i could drop a degree of timing and my afr is ok, i would be ok im guessing. but i realy dont need to chance it. but boy it would be fun and inexpensive.

 

my car had 24 bottles of nitrous go through it and now i'm on a big turbo setup on 25psi with the same motor...

 

Please explain the difference between an LSJ and any other internal combustion engine that can (In your opinion) handle N20?

 

i want to run a 35 shot as well just not sue if its safe. I want to but its hard to make a choice im on a 2.9 pulley and zzp can tune. but im going to get a real good tune from a dyno shop just want to see what it would do and if i can be safe

 

My LNF on a e47 tune and 24 psi saw a 125 shot 3 times before the clutch bit it. No problems at all and ran awesome. It was a wet shot also.

 

why do you recomend not running it with a 2.6 pulley?
