Since most of you know im ordering pistons and all teh goodies

I am looking to hit from 150 to 250 shot, however this will be my first time using nitrous, however have some very experianced friends that run it on DSM's but would rather have the opinions of the cobalt crowd

to run a 250 shot will take some serious modifications... are you willing to spend a few grand to run that 250?

Boooooooooom! I knew a guy who used a 250 shot on his 505 hp Z06. Put him around 750 hp. Just say it didn't last too long.

Ok you do know a 250 shot is what the nig V-8 guys use that race seriously?
I'm not sure in our engines can handle that kind of N2O.

that doesn't make it much better... you're looking to almost double the power instantly... kaaabooooommm!

I still think thats too much. I had a 400 pontiac big block running an armor steel crank that was nitrated, forged ballenced rods and forged racing pistons in an engine that cost me almost $20 grand to build and I never would have thought of hitting it with a 200 shot let alone 250! The most I ever hit it with was a 150shot and it still cracked a piston at that! A $100.00 each piston!

I'd talk with a few guys who run N2O already and see what they say cause I see you wasting ALOT of money if you hit it like your wanting to.

i agree... i would talk the TONS of money you would spend to build the engine properly, and put it into a turbo... at least you'll always have the power

Ok well umm...a few things:

1. I think you need worry more about actually FIXING your motor rather than getting more power right about now.

2. I hope you plan on doing a progressive nitrous spraying setup like the one NX sells...cause even a 100 shot is alot of stress added to a vehicle. It's not just your motor you have to think about...it's your transmission, your axles and your clutch.

If you don't do it with a progressive setup, you're asking for trouble.

3. GET MONITORING DEVICES! This is probably what your problem was in the first place that this all could have been avoided.

But yeah, put this nitrous idea on hold or atleast do research on how it effects your motor and vehicle in a whole and how it works before buying anything.

youde def need gapless rings. and probably billet everything. lots of monitoring equip like he said. to double your power with n2o is dangerous as hell for your motor. my uncles car runs a 10.1 and he runs a 275 shot on a 455 pontiac motor, but somethings wrong with it and hes only getting 130whp so hes got some plumbing issues. but its not a 20k engine and he has no other problems with it... dunno what the other guys probs were. but to double your motors power instantly is gonna be a brutal hit to your car.

i was also contemplating a big hit of nitrous on my 65. looking at a two stage 200-400shot but thats on a 460. ill build a motor for it, but i wont necessarily use it. just to leave my options open for later.

Ive got dibs on the supercharger when he blows his engine.
Ill give you 500 for supercharger and manifold.
Just tell me when it blows.

What you planning to do with those 4 holes that get punched threw it when the pistons are on their way into outer space?

rods, pistons, machine the cyls for the extra expansion of the pistons and such, colder plugs, highly suggest a progressive controller, a ton of timing control, EGT gauge, A/F gauge, keep knock in mind, possibly a fuel cell with 102+ octane fuel.

and a pair of pants to change at the end of the strip

I think it would be ******* great if you could get your **** together. I've seen people put 100-150 on weaker engines, so this is doable with the right precautions.

Have fun sinking more money then you probably have to support a 250 shot. I don't think the block would last much longer then 1 or 2 sprays!

are you an Ex V8 owner by chance?
because the nitrous that you put into a 4 banger is not surprisingly about half of what a V8 will take. half the cylinders duh

the suggested SAFE level of nitrous is 20hp PER CYLINDER.
meaning an 80shot for 4 cyl
or a 160 for a V8

when you go over these limits your putting more and more stress on your engine parts.

a 250 shot?

Not gonna happen without a fully built motor.

Even a 120 shot would likely require alot of supporting mods.

yeah but is that even still recommended with new technology and such? I know a lot of people who still go by that on stock engines (that or no more than 55-60% what the engine makes already at the flywheel), myslef included.

there's no way I'd run that on stock internals though. I'd even look at taking off the head and doing some bowl work to get rid of possible hot spots.

what's funny is when I saw this title I was going to reply with "buy an f-body and buy a direct port kit. done." lol

good luck getting traction

if I had a built motor I'd run 100-125 shot...if raised compression, built bottom end + boost + a 125 shot of nitrous don't satisfy you then you probably bought the wrong car.
