I want NOS.

Where is the best place to get a NOS kit? I only want a shot of 40-50 at most since i will be using it on my 2.2 ECOtec stock engine components. I do plan on getting a step colder plugs tho. I mostly plan on using it as appearence rather then using it. But im sure it will be used 1x a month or so. Any suggustions?

Check out some of the deals the Supporting Vendors here have to offer. I know RK sport has a kit, and they give 15% to all members of CobaltSS.net

It's called Nitrous.

"NOS" is a brand name.

the only advantage in having nos brand instead of nx or zex is the warranty and the reputation they offer you know taht by bying NOS you're not buying scrap

Utter nonsense -

You can get The Nitrous Works EFI kit for way under $500 and Edelbrock's EFI kit for under $500 as well, does that mean he'll blow it up?

No.

People blow up cars on nitrous, nitrous doesn't do anything but what its told to to.

The Ecotec was forced feed nitrous in 3 stages up and over 400hp and did about 270hp on the chassis dyno before all 4 rods broke.

You can SAFELY RUN a 100hp shot on a DEAD STOCK Ecotec and will run for a LONG, LONG TIME with weekly use on the bottle.

If I had a dime for everytime somebody that has never used nitrous posted on a board about it being harmful to your engine and useless I would be a very, very rich man.

Those that choose to run slowly, go ahead.

In the meantime, anybody thats serious can -

The Nitrous Works EFI kit - $475
The Nitrous Works Max Pack Kit - $200 (Bottle Heater, Pressure Gauge, Blowdown Tube and NHRA/IHRA blowoff cap)
Truebenz 2.5" exhaust system with Magnaflow straight through Muffler - $300
15" Steelies - $100
BFG 225/50-15' G-Force Drag Radials - $230

You could run mid to low 13's with an otherwise STOCK Cobalt.

If you have an LS, you already about 200lbs lighter than the SS....

Take out the rear seats, pass seat, spare and jack/tool. That should be worth another tenth of a second, maybe more.

Don't talk about it, just do it....

Read the GM Ecotec Handbook, even THEY recommend a small nitrous system and sorry but 100hp shot is SMALL when you consider most Pro Mod cars are injecting over 800-900hp if not more in 2-3 stage systems.

Dumb question but I don't live in the US (wish I did though sometimes). Is Nitrous legal in ALL states?? How about radar detectors. Both are illegal in Ontario and I believe the rest of Canada.

Do you mean get caught using it...or just having it in the car. In Ontario, you can have the entire system installed and as long as you don't have lines coming from the bottle(s) into the system you're OK

Anyone that states that Nitrous does NOT have a detrimental effect on internals is nutz. Nitrous substantially improves combustion, thus creating more power and stress on engine components. By saying it doesn't hurt anything is like saying driving around and shifting at 6000 rpm has no more effect than driving it around shifting at 2000 rpm. Power means stress and if you don't believe that, ask someone that drag races professionally and runs nitrous. Nitrous makes everything burn quicker.....your air fuel mixture and the dollar bills in your wallet.

and the same goes for a turbo charged, supercharged, or high compression vehicle. The good thing about nitrous is that its only that way when you are spraying vs all the time.

Anyone doing any serious mods to their car should realize these things anyway...Although its not like your car is going to last only 60K vs 100K if you run nitrous. Most people run all types of FI without any problems.

So, have fun kiddies!

Ah...spoken by someone who has never used it or torn a motor down that was on the juice.....

Nitrous will clean carbon off the pistons and valves better than anything you have ever seen. If you pull the head off a juiced car, you will see everyting is spotless. No nasty carbon bits trying to give you pre-ignition, no gummed up valves. Excellant vacuum as well. If used properly, I would say that the N2O is better for your engine than not using it.

Nitrous does NOT make the mixture burn 'faster', the flame will propagate at the same speed. It simply allows more fuel to be burned by adding oxygen and cooling the intake charge so that more can be packed in the combustion chamber.

As long as you do not add so much power that the dynamic compression pushes past the rings or distort any metal so that it goes into its inelastic phase, I cannot see any reduction in longevity, quite the opposite. Now, if you get used to the power and start runnning it up higher and higher, then sure, you will break something. Same thing goes for starting with a sick engine and juicing it. As it normally ages, you want to take it down a notch, but that caution is because of normal wear on the engine, not because you threw a shot down the intake and damaged something, but because your engine was not up to the shot you picked.

If they find it they can take it or fine you, When you get the fine you have to get your car reinspected immediatley. If you have a permit for it then you are fine, If they see you use it, you will either be going to fast, or you get f'ed in the A. hardcore.
