Got a speeding ticket today
Don't know if this is the right thread for this but here it goes. Oh and I'm also posting this in the Mid east forum as well since it happened in Va.
So I was driving back from work from virgina on my way home to Md with my cousin.
Well the trip with no traffic is atleast 1 hour and 30 mins. So I'm cruising down the highway in the hov lane with no one if front of me. I'm going probably 75ish which is keeping up with most of the other traffic. Well I eventually come up to someone who is going like 55 (speedlimit) and I see this person who is right on my booty behind me. So I switch lanes and pass this person going 70 ish.
The person behind me follows and doesn't loose any ground between him and me while doing this. So I cought back up with traffic again and was eventually doing 84, but I wasn't aware of this because I was going slightly faster then the rest of the traffic. Again the person behind me is still there. So I slow back down again to 70 in the HOV lane.
Well thats when I found out that the person behind me was a cop. At first I didn't think he was pulling me over because I was going about the same speed as traffic.
Anyway he pulled me over and the first thing he said to me was "do you know what I pulled you over for?" and I said yeah for speeding. He then asked "do you know how fast you were going?" My reply was yeah 84. Then he said "that was the second time" I was like what do you mean the second time? He said "the first time I clocked you doing 94, then you passed someone and did 84 then slowed back down." I told him that the fastest I know I went was 84 and nothing over that.
He then went back to his car filled out something, then came back with a court date and had me sign it. It says where I signed "I promise to appear at the time and place shown above. Signing this summons is not an admission of guilt." He then said right after he handed me my license and registration "it would be a very good idea to get an attorney" then walked back to his car.
Right now I'm pretty much freaking out and really pissed off that the cop said I was going 10mph faster then I really was. Yeah I have no problem admitting that I was speeding and going 84, but 94 is rediculous.
My dad says that I will probably lose my car and license, but I'm kind of finding that slightly hard to believe. Other people have told me that I will probably get points taken off and of probation.
My cousin though called his girlfriend and told her what just happened, and she told him that she got pulled over before doing 89 in a 50. She showed up to court with an attorney, paid $400 in fines + the attorney's fee and had no points taken off. I know she's a girl but that doesn't seem that bad at all. Yeah a lot of money but atleast points weren't taken off. Thats the only thing I'm hoping for here, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
So what do you guys think? Do you guys know some things I don't that would possibly help me stop freaking out?
thanks so much if you do.

What I don't understand is how did u not know that the guy behind you was a cop? I know our wing blocks the view but damn i can at least see who's right behind me. Also, i believe you get points added on, not taken off when you get a ticket.

Believe me I know when there is a marked cop car by me, I'm constanly looking around me for them, but this guy looked like anyone else on the road.
My guess it was the all white cop car. I found it that the easiest way to see those guys is with the spotlight on the side mirror or the red/blue lights on the back of the rear view mirror.

Again believe me when I say I look at for the crown vics a lot as well. I know that a lot of cops drive them and I look out for them just as much as the regular police interceptors or whatever there called.

COPS DON'T HAVE QUOTAS EACH MONTH!!!
At least in the United States they don't. However, writing tickets is sometimes used as a measure of performance of duties. (This is frowned upon though)

First thing, get a traffic lawyer. They can help you much more than you think and the $200-$500 is worth it to keep points off of your license and your insurance rates as low as possible.
Second, he can not "clock you" doing 94 when he is not stopped. He can pace you and that is also legitimate evidence to give you a speeding ticket since police speedometers are calibrated and certified accurate. He could have hit 94 to catch up to you, that does not mean you were doing 94mph.
I got pulled over a month ago in my friend's STi. The cop tells me that he had to do 70 to catch up to me. I was thinking to myself, "that doesn't mean I was doing 70, you have to go faster than me in order to catch up to me."
Luckily, I didn't get a ticket for speeding, tailgating (he said I was, but I was not) or loud exhaust (which, oddly, he didn't mention even though the car has a 3.5" turbo-back exhaust with no secondary cat, high-flow muffler and 4.5" tip with the silencer removed
).
I got two tickets Sunday in my grandmother's Taurus.
One for doing 82 in a 55 and one for expired inspection (2 years out
)
I got traffic lawyer and he said since it is my first ticket in four years of driving, he can get the inspection dropped with proof of inspection (got it inspected the next day at work) and he can get my speeding ticket dropped to 2pts (21-30 over is 6pts in NY), or even dropped to a non-moving violation.
Cliff's notes?
Get a traffic lawyer, he'll help you as much as you would hurt yourself if you tried to represent yourself.

That was when he was waaaay back behind me and was catching up to me which he did really fast.
I actually saw him in the middle of the highway turning around to get on my side of the road. I passed him and then I barely saw him in my rear view mirror turn out and start to speed up.
I remember saying to myself "look at this person trying to turn around in a spot only for authorized vehicles." I should been smarter and thought that there's a possibilty that he could be in an unmarked car. After all I've never seen a cop in a chevy impala, so I didn't think nothing of it. He looked like any other car on the road with no special markings on the car.
Now that I think about it, as far back as he was, he must of been going A LOT faster then me to catch up so thats where he could've gotten the 94mph from.
I'm seriously, he was atleast 200+ yards behind me and caught up while I was doing 75 in a fairly short time.
