hey guys when i purchased my car they never gave me an owners manual, so how much oil does are car take and what kind(it prooly says on the cap, i havnt looked)

i concur 200% that how-to section is perfect. i have only select people i go to on here for information regarding a cobalt lol. and i must say EVERYONE on this philly chat thread are well educated and know EXACTLY what they're talking about. except for maybe malik cause he is running 100 shot of spray on a 100% stock t/c... he just wants everyone to think his car is bad ass lol jk broseph!

When you guys changed your's, reset the oil meter, is it dropping like mad? I'm down to 6% but I've only changed my oil like 3000miles ago.. and synthetic should last a lot longer than that! I should probably change the filter again though.

 

i got mine changed last week and i'm at 93% and i put on some miles because i drove to deleware, taught someone to drive stick, ran kevin once last night from like 15 mph roll... and toyed around with a new m3 on 95 so0o0o idk how your down at 6% to be honest unless your running your car like crazy. which i'm sure your not... yo who is coming this sunday night!! it's suppppoose to be clear

 

haha i drive 6 miles from my house to fort washington! Nothing intense about that.

 

Sounds a little low, but still in the ballpark. Our cars "need" it changed every 3000-5000 miles so it's pretty close. It'll usually drop 1-2% a day depending how much you drive. I'm running the 15,000 mile Mobil 1 synthetic right now (maybe 7k on it) and I like it so far. I'll probably change it again in the next few weeks though.

lol totally. Is Malik really running a 100 shot? 'Cause that'd be insane and not in a good way.

the oil monitor on the dash does not know if the additives in the oil are good or not it only goes by the type of driving and how many miles. so if you do a lot of city miles the life will go down quicker then if it were all highway miles. I change my oil every 3000 miles which is actually a little over kill. With engines machined to precise tolerances and the quality of the oils out there, especially synthetics you really don't need to change your oil anything less than 5000 miles. Also for added info on the subject the oil itself whether its synthetic or not will never go bad or lose its viscosity. It's actually the additives added to the oil that deteriate and diminish over time which is why you need to change your oil on a regular basis.
